Tor Books A Sorceress Comes to Call

Okay, but...
I've read almost everything T. Kingfisher has written, and I regularly recommend her work to other people - she's one of my favorites. This was an okay read, but not her best. I love the worlds she creates, because she is such an imaginative thinker and comes up with societies whose rules and realities can be surprising. This story is written as a sort of Regency horror thing, and that world already comes with lots of really stupid rules. Meh.I kept waiting for it to break through into a truly T. Kingfisher experience, but it didn't make it. I can honestly say I enjoyed it more than I would most Regency-set novels, but if I'd known that was how it was going to roll, I'm not entirely sure I would have read it. Just a personal taste thing - it's still very obviously written by T. Kingfisher, so if you like her writing, you might like this, too.

Excellent story
As usual, this is another excellent story by T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon). It takes its inspiration from Goose Girl. Told in an old style, like a regency romance, but without the romance. We get witches, and magic, and geese, and horses. Serious good story.

A thoroughly enjoyable read!
I stayed up all night reading this fun book. I love the story and the characters, and the writer arranges words and sentences into skillful, playful, compelling writing. I read an excerpt from this book in a previous story and couldn't wait to pick it up. Love the main character's growth through the book. Highly recommended.

Pitch Perfect Read
I will (and do) read whatever T. Kingfisher gives us to read. I trust her storytelling skills completely to ensure a wild and willful ride (despite her dislike of horses) and once I start one of her books, I can’t put it down. She sets the perfect tone of humor mixed with horror and her characters are real, flawed, and wholly sympathetic (unless they are pure evil, and then they are wholly wonderful at that).Follow T, Kingfisher and rejoice at each new release. I certainly do!

Don’t Answer the Door
I have read nearly all of Kingfisher’s books. She is amazing, thought provoking, and very funny. A Sorceress Comes to Call is no exception. The Sorceress is pure (if I can use that term) evil. Her daughter is a very unwilling victim. The daughter is brave and truthful. Highly recommended.
