Good quality, nice sound
I liked the branding and Vandoren are an established manufacturer, so I decided to give these reeds a try, The outer box is made of cardboard and has clear labelling which should help prevent getting the wrong type. Inside the box, the reeds are individually packed in an airtight wrapper which is claimed to be a humidity barrier. When I got one out, it played straightaway without a problem. After a few minutes, my lips felt different and I really noticed the different texture, taste and shape of the new reed. This was not surprising as I had changed from Rico reeds which I had been using for about 2 years previously and my embochure just needed to acclimatise. I struggled for a few days to get bused to the reed. But after a couple of weeks, I stopped noticing the different feel and just enjoyed playing. What about the sound? - Well I like it because this reed produces a clear, responsive tone. The way the reeds are packed inside individual airtight wrappers means that you can carry spares around with you without having to keep them inside a reed box. Each reed is held within a plastic reed holder which will offer reasonable protection. And the wrapper is also clearly labelled, so you should be able to identify it easily.I'm definitely going to continue using these for the foreseeable future.

Best reeds ever used in my life!
I have been a professional muso for over 20 years and have used other brands in the past but Van Doren are just the best brand out there. These ZZ Alto reeds are the best of the Van Dorens for me. I play Alto sax and often need to keep the volume down because of the close proximity of the audience. With basic reeds, often when playing lower octave and trying to play quietly [in restaurants etc] I had a tendency to squeak/squawk the odd note but with these reeds there is no such problem - playing is smooth and easily controlled. I didn't feel like I had to blow the reed in, the perfect sound was there from the start. The sound is warm and the reed is responsive. Thanks again Van Doren.

Seldom have challenges with Vandoren reeds
I haven't used these particular reeds before. I'm not a proficient enough saxophone player to feel how these differ from the standard reeds I usually order. I couldn't get the standard ones this time, but I have bought a jazz mouthpiece and was advised to use strength 2 reeds on it. So I decided to try Jazz reeds and so far, the two reeds I've broken in work well.

Brilliant jazz reeds - slightly darker jazz tone
I love these reeds. I've been using them for a few years now - I've also tried the Red and Green Java reeds, but these ZZ reeds are my favourite as they produce a slightly darker jazz tone. I think they produce a very clear, crisp sound, have an immediate response and are stable across the registers.

From Java to ZZ
I've always chose Java because it's been one of the most reliables to me, but I've been pleasantly surprised with these.

Buy Good Reeds
I could copy and paste this review on the Vandoren Traditional, V21s, v16s, java greens, java reds, and ZZ Jazz reeds. Vandoren reeds work. If you're using cheap (sub $20-25 per 10 reeds) reeds, you or your child doesn't even know how good they are. The difference is that significant. Jump to the traditional or the java reds which go on sale more, or watch out for a sale on these or the v21s. You will hear a difference. The player will know the difference. It won't be subtle. It's worth it.Really, these are somewhere between java and traditional in sound, so if your playing has that clear, classical tone and you have some rock-y or big-band-y selections and you want to liven it up, give these a shot and you can still use them for concert practice.
