Erin Brockovich [DVD] [2000]

A rough diamond....
A pretty effective film, done in the same format as much of this subject matter, it reminded me of Spotlight, All the Presidents Men and The China Syndrome. I have this on DVD and the picture and sound quality are pretty good, the aspect ratio is 16:9, the picture has a warm yellow look to it. It’s a fairly well acted film, though at times the comedy felt a bit forced and put on, overall though the acting was fine, it’s more how the characters are written as falling into cliches a bit, the tough talking fiery single mother, the cynical weary lawyer, the cold awkward Harvard law graduate, the biker character though was nice in that he’s quite a thoughtful character torn between traditional ideas about masculinity and how much he enjoys being a step father to her children. The main character is one of those rough diamond types who’s heart is in the right place but who’s short temper and colour language often land her in hot water. The music is quite good, lots of piano. American loves a story about a big faceless negligent corporation being taken on by the little guy, the film is intended as a big of crowd pleaser, though it does also intelligently dive into the cost of working this case has on our main character’s personal life, missing her baby’s first words and so on. The film also does a nice job and explaining the legal complexities too of the US justice system and why it’s not always as simple as it appears and things rarely come to trial. The film is nicely shot, well acted and edited, it’s also easy to follow and you never feel confuse or lost. Overall very good.

Superb and gripping film
Cannot fault the film, excellent, as it's true to a bad happening in the USA we felt so sad for the people who suffered, but to see the incredible positive end result was so heart warming.

Don't miss this awesome Oscar, Bafta and a Golden Globe winning True story...
Roberts is awesome, Albert Finney is brilliant and it's so good it was nominated for every award going. Watch this and be both entertained and edified. Erin Brockovich is a factual account of how a single mum with 3 kids, joins a law firm and takes on a large corporate giant who is poisoning the local water supply with chemical byproducts. In a similar vein to the 2019 true story "Dark Waters', this great legal movie highlights to all of us the fact that large businesses who make billions, will cut corners to save a few dollars, even if it puts human life at risk. This gripping real life story, also shows how hard work and determination can pay off when you work for a great boss. While it's satisfying to hear a big company's had to pay out millions to those it damaged due to unnecessary penny pinching, it's sad to know that it's still going on to this day, as most companies care more about profit, than spending money to dispose of their chemical waste properly.Having said that, we all need to know the truth and this movie is throughly entertaining and you'll understand why Roberts, Finney, the director Soderberg and the movie itself were nominated for every award going. If you like true stories, watch this movie, you won't be disappointed, then afterwards, watch 'Dark Waters' another great true legal battle starring Mark Rufallo, Tony Robbins and Anne Hathaway, where Ruffalo takes on the billion dollar corporation 'Dupont' (manufacturer of Teflon) who for 25 years buried toxic waste in the grounds around their factory, contaminating the water supply causing all the locals to develop cancer and birth defects...The victims in these movies were called conspiracy theorists simply for suggesting that the companies involved were causing their cancers, if it wasn't for movies like these, we would't have clue about what companies are doing to us.
