In Sherwood's version, a rather wooden, inept bishop and his lonely wife unknowingly take into their lives a heaven-sent angel who aids the former and ends up falling in love with the latter. In this unnecessary update, an inner-city preacher (Courtney B. Vance) and his estranged spouse (Whitney Houston) are visited by a celestial goof (Denzel Washington), whose unsolicited offer of help is enough to galvanise Vance's character to fix his own problems. What that means is this: by the second act, there's no reason to have Washington's angel in the story. Even his infatuation with the missus isn't enough to warrant his hanging around this movie; the change is a colossal blunder by director Penny Marshall. Vance ends up stealing the film from Washington, but it's a Pyrrhic victory; for the most part this movie just seems like a series of random scenes between opportunities for Houston to belt out songs. --Tom Keogh

A Christmas Must Watch
I love this movie - it’s a Christmas mist watch every year. So much Chemistry between Witney and Denzel (who is absolutely an angel!). Really gets you in the feels and reminds you how amazing Witney really was. Watch it, you will love it. ♥️

The Preacher’s Wife
I ordered this DVD as I only have it video. It was reasonably priced and arrived within 48 hours.If you haven’t seen the film, it stars Whitney Houston and Denzil Washington, and is a good family film, full of humour, touching moments with a superb soundtrack.

Sadly the amazing songstress is no longer with usBut in this film we see "the voice" in full and glorious flightWhitney powers her way through gospel songs .like "help is on the way"and then she smoulders with "I belive in you and me"The story is good the acting is good too; and this Christmas story ..will make you laugh ..cry ..and maybe even belive that miracles can come true .

A lovely uplifting film
I haven't watched this DVD yet, but the reason I bought it was because I watched it a couple of years ago, loved it, and inadvertently missed it when it was shown on tv last year. It was on again this Christmas, but it didn't matter that we missed it this time - we shall watch it in the next week or two. I mean, Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston - what's not to like!

A great festive season film.
It's one of my favourite Christmas films and I'm pleased to own it and will enjoy watching it every Christmas.Some great characters in the story and good acting - a poignant tale.

Un film molto gradevole.
Il dvd è arrivato puntuale. È stato un ottimo e conveniente acquisto considerando che in Italia è difficile da reperire, ma vi è tra le tante opzioni di doppiaggio e sottotitoli anche in italiano. È un film che consiglio se amate Whitney Houston, la sua musica e anche la sua breve carriera anche come attrice ! Voto 10 !
