A good read
Any Liverpool fan old enough to remember the 60's team will find this book difficult to put down.I was a great admirer of Tommy Lawrence as a person and as a great goalkeeper. I knew after retirement from the game things did not go well for him. Mainly due to LFC not giving him a benefit game. Footballers did not earn big money in the 60's very few could afford a pension and their playing days didn't last very long 35 being about the end. Just imagine the money he would have got from a full Anfield. Life would have been much easier for Tommy. Not to be appreciated by the club he played 390 games for is a very sad thing. He was such a loyal servant to one of the best clubs/teams in the world. Thanks Tommy for a wonderful 9+ years at Anfield. Thanks Peter for putting the story on paper.

An excellent read for any Liverpool Supporter
A friend mentioned that a book called "Sweeper Keeper" ,about Tommy Lawrence had been published so having been brought up in the same village at the same time as Tommy Lawrence was living there as well as being a Liverpool Supporter ,I just had to get the book .Roger Hunt also lived thereI ordered it one day ,it arrived the next and I read it in three sittings.I was not disappointed. It was a great read not only about the life of Tommy Lawrence but also about the Club itself and the great players who played for Liverpool just after the middle of the last Century..Gosh doesn't that make me sound old?Well I am !It was sensitively told and the author made it clear what a lovely man Tommy was .I am so pleased that Stuart Flinders stopped Tommy to ask him whether he remembered a particular Everton V Liverpool Match.

True footballing Legend
Absolutely loved this book and read it from cover to cover in almost one go.Tommy was a real football and goalkeeping icon who paved the way for the goalies we see today. He was a true gentleman and totally unassuming and the story and YouTube video of him being accidentally stopped and interviewed still makes me cry.I am lucky enough to know the Lawrence family and be friends with Tommy’s children and they are an incredible family who will keep his memory and legacy alive😍A beautifully told story of an incredible, never to be forgotten gentleman footballer.Well told Peter👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Di iawn🏴
