Great Read for Horse Lovers
What better book to read in the days leading up to a possible Triple Crown winner! I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and researched with care. While she focuses on the famous Belair Stud, Kimberly Gatto has also provided a wonderful history of Thoroughbred racing dating back to the Englishcolonies. She includes the amazing fact that horses walked to the races as they were only later transported in carts. A horse might arrive to race havingwalked 150 miles! For someone like myself who knows much about racing and pedigrees, there were still new things to learn and what a great idea to includethe pedigrees and racing wins in an appendix. The pictures are a highlight as well. I highly recommend the book to fans of racing history and those who would like to learn about some of the greatest horses of all time. We live in a time when the racing industry needs to do major soul searching, but Gatto captures the heroes of racing, the horses who inspire.

Good book, though very brief (109 pages)
Good book, though very brief (109 pages). The author could have gone into more detail about many of the individual great horses and their racing careers. I got the impression that the author might have thought, "yeah, I could have done that, but it would have been a lot of work."
