Preaching to the choir
(Attention: possible spoilers, but youre not gonna be surprised)I love the myth of Lilith and was stoked to get this book in time for a trip to Crete to visit Knossos and hang out with the beautiful bare-breasted, snake-wielding goddesses of the Minoans. (That will make sense if you read the book) I read the whole book in the week i was there, first with relish then with perserverance, and finally finished with something akin to relief.Pros: Beautifully detailed characters with emotional complexity. Good inner dialogue. The author clearly loved her charaters. It was also superbly well-researched. There were numerous historically solid references to global goddess myths and legit poetry from ancient Mesopotamia. Ive now purchased 2 of the books the author referenced at the end in her footnotes.Cons: Felt like i was attending an anti-church church sermon. I question organized religion a LOT, but this will be a hard read for some. And even for a staunch feminist, this book preached the matriarchal gospel so hard i almost choked on the propaganda. And the redundancy....oh my sweet Lady....how many times do we need to blame ecological disaster on patriarchy? Got it after 3 times, lol.

A long journey
This is an unapologetic challenge to patriarchy and male-dominated religion. You will trace the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of the first woman as she seeks to restore balance to a world long broken by the cruelties of unchecked male dominance since humanity was expelled from the Garden of Eden. But was paradise truly lost? Or have we merely rendered from the exclusion of one half of our senses?I felt the storycraft was a bit shaky at its start, but became ever more compelling as the world aged and the story evolved unto its triumphant conclusion. This smartly rendered tale leaves one hoping that we might find some measure of Lilith's sanity before all is lost.

Loved it!
One of the best retellings out there! In my top 5 if not top 3. This is a very strong feminist retelling so it may not be for everyone. I found it beautiful and empowering. The story was great and held my attention. I'd sit to read just a little and end up reading for hours. I would definitely read more by this author.

A stunningly poetic novel
WOW, a stunningly poetic novel! I absolutely loved this novel. It was so beautiful and lovely and tragic and heart opening and eye opening. Nikki did an amazing amount of research and everything fell into place so beautifully. This is one of my favorite books I've read, thank you!

A feminist take on the stories of the bible
Lilith is an enjoyable feminist take on the stories of the bible. It centres on the idea that in the beginning in Eden there was God, Yahweh and Goddess, Asherah. They created man and woman, Adam and Lilith, in their own image, as equals, to live in Paradise. But when Asherah disappeared, Adam and his God became more demanding. Lilith refused to submit and obey Adam, leading to her banishment from Eden. Eve was then created by God to be a more passive and obedient wife for Adam. Thus the patriarchal society was born.Somehow Lilith becomes immortal and strides through the centuries trying to right this wrong. She wants to bring back worship of the goddess and reinstate equality between the sexes, thus re-establishing harmony to the natural world. It is a little reductive, sometimes feeling as though two thousand years of history are being summed up as men are bad and women are good. But no matter, it's an interesting idea and a great story. I do think though that the subtitle "the heroine women have waited six hundred years for" is a bit misleading. It makes Lilith sound like a superhero, and she is anything but. She is angry and emotional and as fallible as any human. She gets it wrong over and over again, but she keeps trying and I loved her for it.

Great book
Gripping and hard to put down!! It’s interesting seeing the story of Lilith written as a novel rather than a biography. Love this!

A good read
I enjoyed this book a lot. I've always wanted to learn more about Lilith and this book does the trick. I loved the relationship between Lilith and Samuel. I felt for her a lot when her son died and her close companions, I felt her loneliness. This book also took me to places I wish to visit although I have been to Ephesus.
