I like this
I read so many reviews of so many different toasters on Amazon, I can't believe I had to spend so much time to pick a toaster, because even the highly rated ones have lots of negative reviews.I eventually settled on this one, because some but not too many negative reviews. It turned out to be pretty good, bread are toasted crispy (better than my old ones), and evenly. Maybe I am just not that picky about toaster.

Don't let the price fool you, this is the toaster to buy.
The Oster was recommended by a website we consult for thorough product testing. It was the cheapest toaster they tested and outperformed toasters 4 times the price. We tend to dislike buying cheap, disposable appliance (or anything cheap and disposable, for that matter), we are "buy it for life" type people. When we were shopping to replace our 30 year old toaster, we were disappointed by what we perceived as almost universally low quality products for sometimes-inordinate prices. Some of them were hideous while others were simply okay. We took a chance on it and we couldn't be happier. This toaster is fantastic, and not just "fantastic for the price". It toasts quickly and evenly. Button-feel is good (as far as toasters go, anyway) and the knob feel is reasonable. The appearance is handsome, and I appreciate the classic layout and modest footprint (I would have liked perfectly straight sides, but hey, you aren't supposed to nestle your toaster right against the wall anyhow so no major loss of space there).Much of the external parts are metal and do get warm, and even hot in some places. This is in contrast to plastic-bodied toasters, but in general there are few external surfaces you can touch that will cause pain after use, most of the surface remains warm at the hottest.Get this toaster; it's great, and not just "for the price". We feel confident that it will serve our needs for a good long while. If we end up being wrong... heck, it's one of the cheapest out there so it's a loss we feel we can eat (pun intended, why not!)

Three's(4? 5?) a Charm?
After two previous toaster purchases on Amazon, I'm a bit more upbeat on this one. I have no idea why companies have such an issue with even, consistent toasting?! This one has proven to be the best of three from Amazon PLUS two others I found at yard sales or thrift shops. OH, not to be forgotten ... add in the one I threw in the trash after the flames went out. And yes, I doused it with water before it went in the bin.My biggest complaint is that this Oster, when set on Bagel, toasts BOTH sides and toasts then VERY dark, no matter what temperature setting I turn it to. And for all those people out in toaster review land who complain that their toasters only toast one side of the bagel when set to that control? It's been my experience throughout many years of bagel perfection, a bagel should ONLY be toasted on one side. The cut side. That's why there is a button on toasters labeled "Bagel". I'm still willing to keep this one and we'll see how long it lasts. I can always put my bagels cut side/face down on my griddle.

I don't understand the bagel function...
I like it! It's hefty and uses good quality materials (which is expected from Oster). They styling looks nice and it does toast things. My only complaint is that the bagel function makes no sense to me. In every other toaster I've ever owned there is a diagram on top of the toaster which tells you which way to face the bagels so that only the inside gets toasted. On this... no diagram. Now I know what you're thinking, "AHA! Just press the bagel button and see which side turns on! Then you'll know! Gosh, I'm so much smarter than you!"Yes yes internet denizen, I thought of that too. Turns out both sides turn on when you press the bagel button. In fact, as far as I can tell there is absolutely no difference when using this feature. As I threw out the manual, now I can't even check. And really, if I have to read a manual to figure out a toaster then the toaster is too complicated.
