Rebound (The Crossover Series)

I bought this for my nephew for Easter. He was skeptical at first, because it is written entirely in poetry. But the storyline is excellent, and it helped him to understand that hip-hop was inspired. By the way Shakespeare wrote (I’m an English teacher… I could not resist!). After finishing the book, he immediately asked if there were others by this author, and now he is trying to write an mimic the style of Alexander. It is excellent!

My 13 year old use to be an avid reader until a couple of years ago when he discover the phone and video games. I got him this book to try to get him back into reading. I thought he woukd connect with the characters, and he certainly did!The author has really done a wonderful job of finding a way to reach young teen men, specially, young people, in general. That push n pull of family ties and budding love is balanced by the underlying coming of age story line. I was really impressed by the book and my son, couldn't wait to see if there were more books in the series.

I’m a school librarian at a K-5 school. My 5th graders loves The Crossover and reading it to them bonded us like nothing else could’ve.Rebound is a worthy prequel. I felt like it did more than enough to stand on its own while sprinkling in references and callbacks to The Crossover that made me smile.Yes, there are some details (Arsenio Hall) that are factually incorrect, but they will be corrected in the next printing. Alexander is a masterful writer and I will be reading anything he publishes in the near future.

Dear kids interested in reading this book,No adults made us write this. We think you should read this book because it is good. Kwame Alexander wrote this book as a poem, and it made us want to read more. Kwame Alexander is a best-selling author and winner of the Newbery award, and we know why! Rebound is about basketball and life. We are a 6th grade boys' book group, but we know that girls will like this book too!

This is one of my 13 year old's favorite books! We read together all the time and I have to say I enjoyed this one far better than Crossover. I felt it had a much more relatable protagonist and better overall themes.

I didn’t think this was possible, but I love this even more than The Crossover. This prequel is expertly written as it makes you forget what you know is coming, but is also so very satisfying as it puts some bows on some answers.The writing is phenomenal, but the characters are even better. I love every, single one..yes, Charlie/Chuck, mom, CJ are all amazing, but the grandparents stole the show for me. Granddad is sassy and sweet and tender and tough.You’ll love it.

My nephew, someone who gravitates more toward physical play than reading for pleasure, enthusiastically recommends this book. He appreciated the lyrical poesy of it, as well as the social relevance. It is well-written, with a lyrical quality to it.

Evocative, exciting and just so moving. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It made me want to learn basketball.

My Son who avoids reading as much as possible read this series and really enjoyed the books #winning!
