Great little book from a true expert
This is a lovely little book by an author who obviously knows and loves all the species of redeye bass. The author is a scientist and avid angler. The book has good information to help you started planning trips, without getting so specific as to risk "burning" a spot with too many people. I most enjoyed the sections on the biology / ecology / genetics of the various upland black bass species. If you're a serious warmwater fly angler, you should add this book to your collection. It's a very enjoyable read.

Excellent content and not just for flyfishing. The only book of its kind!
I have been looking for ages for information about the "red eye" bass species; looking for books, online etc. the information was hard to find, spoty and not all that useful for my purposes of planning a trip to fish for them..... until I found this book! This has everything I was looking for. It covers genetic diversity among the species, history of the drainages where they can be found and habitat information in order for the angler to find and catch them. Though this is a "flyfishing" book, don't let that stop you from picking up this gem of a book! Spin, bait and any other angler will greatly benefit from the detailed and fascinating contents. Along with the drainage and species info are great color photos of each of the species. You will dog ear, underline and write notes in the margins of this book. This will fit in well in any angling library.

Excellent tribute to an awesome fish
Excellent tribute to an awesome fish!!! Matt Lewis is an expert of the Redeye Bass - a relatively small but beautiful and intriguing fish! This book is a passionate tribute to the fish and a wonderful study of the bass fly fishing hobby that is taking off here in Alabama and the Southeast. Matt uses his scientific background to expound on Redeye genetics and takes a look at how hybridization can negatively impact local waters. He details the fishing methods used by anglers to approach this aggressive, small-stream fish. At all times, you have the feel of a scientist and angler who is passionate about his job, his hobby, and the conservation of an American native species. I highly recommend this book if you have any interest in fishing, fly fishing, stream fishing, wade fishing, fish biology/genetics, or you are just looking for a good book to read!!

Interesting informative read
I was able to learn from a pro fly fishing in the South East! I really learned a lot about the history and species of fish in local streams. I feel like you get the 10,000 foot perspective with lots of specific details in relation to the ecology of red eye bass. All in all, a great informative read.

Alabama Redeye Slam!
I have had the pleasure to attend a few of the authors webinars. It’s one a the few resources an angler has regarding Alabama’s beautiful Redeye Bass.
