The perfect snare batter head for versatile drummers
This is by far the best sounding and feeling snare drum head I’ve used and I’ve been drumming for 50 years. It has the solid punch and texture for light brush work all at the same time!!!

Cool woven look & durability!
The Evans HD Dry is normally my go to. I see this as a similar head in regards to attack, controlling overtones, etc. except you get it indefinitely, since it will take 10x as long to wear this head out. The standout feature is the looks for sure, pictures doesn’t do it justice since the appearance changes at different angles. The woven Kevlar in the head makes me think of Nike Fly-knit running shoes, it’s beautiful. Also, it will maintain this look due to the durability and because of the unique color, you won’t see the eventual 3” circle from wear and tear, like traditional white heads. The hybrid almost gets better with age, just keep it clean and care for it in between beatings. The crack on a well broke in head of a marching snare is the sound I love and this head allows me to capture that, along with the look. My brass 13x7 Pork Pie snare is naturally a ringy drum, this head calms it down just a little more than the HD Dry, so I really don’t need a moon. Maybe half of one just to take out a certain frequency, but it’s take it or leave it. You will need to crank this up a bit tighter than normal heads. I.e. Normally I keep an HD Dry or any other two ply batter tuned around 88-90 on a Drum Dial, while the Hybrid is cranked to about 95 to get similar sound and feel and I don’t sacrifice anything when it comes to sensitivity. Once you get out of 1 ply and into 2 ply heads, the ultra sensitive feel that folks speak of isn’t the same. The hybrid is closer to a 2 ply in feel and sound, I’m just trying to convey that it is a lively head despite its incredible heft. I will suggest that if you are considering this head, put it on a drum with premium hardware. At least a 2.3mm triple flange hoop with good hardware. If not, you’re bound to end up with bent screws trying to crank it right. The head was $55 at the time of purchase, which is a lot. There’s plenty other things you can do with those dollars, but I just look at it as an investment, for the reasons I mentioned above. I’d recommend this head for anyone looking to play rock, metal, hip hop, gospel. If you don’t want to spend, get an HD Dry, they’re great.

Durable, great sound, easy to tune!
My ONLY regret is I didn’t get this head sooner! Holy crap I never thought simply putting a snare head on and just finger tightening the tension rods would make such a difference. I’m sure I gave each tension rod a good turn or two before busting out my drum dial (I usually keep the batter cranked up to 92) but at 90 this thing “pops” and reminds me of a marching snare. I didn’t even really make full adjustments to the reso head. But if you’re looking for a crack, pop, or something to cut through cymbals, guitars, etc.. then this head is for you. I normally always use a Remo on my snare head and had even gotten Aric Improta’s Artbeat snare head. But that will be kept in its packaging until it’s needed as I have a feeling this snare head will last a long time. I can play heavy but my sticks are light (aheads speed metal sticks) so the only way this puppy is going to break is if it’s tightened too much and smacked. Or some freak accident happens, this head is thick, but doesn’t produce any “thud” or deep sounds regardless of how deep your snare is, I’ve put it on my steel DW 14x8 which sounded great. But I’m a Mapex lover and it’s currently on my maple 14x6.5 snare (matches my kit). I’m not a huge DW fan as I just feel their drums are becoming ridiculously over priced and this snare head proves to me I can get the same sound from a 350$ To a regular old kit snare that alone would costs less than $100 bucks. While it’s definitely not for any low end sounds, I will say before the pandemic I played a show and time was running out so I played on someone else’s kit and he had this very head on his snare and I felt like I was back in marching band. The pop, the rebound, and doing a rimshot just sounds incredible. The sound guy later told me he turned off the snare mic because it cut through everything... I would definitely recommend this to anyone whose heavy handed and likes their snares to sing!

Perfection
I play about 12 gigs a month... 3 to 4 hour shows. I also teach drum set lessons during the week. My snare drum gets played every single day. I put the hybrid head on it in February 2022. Today is December 30 2022 and not only is it still playable.... It sounds unbelievable. I'm a pretty hard hitter, for the record. Worth every penny!

Do yourself a favor!
Believe the hype!Relatively novice drummer here with a Ludwig Element Evolution snare which I have been using an HD Dry head on. Wifey got me the Hybrid for Christmas today and I’ve only played on it for an hour but I’m SUPER impressed! The difference is real and awesome! Worth the price! Just do it!

A Drumhead for the 21st Century
I hesitated (at the price!), but this head exceeded expectations for me.I can only comment on my own tuning, which is somewhere between medium and high, but this is the first, and only, head I've used on my snare where I didn't feel the need for even the smallest piece of Moongel. It gets rid of the annoying overtones - to the point that they are non-existent towards the centre of the drum - yet rim shots and playing at the edge really let the shell sing; this was particularly important for me because I wanted to use it on a Black Beauty and the DW Carbon Fibre snares, both of which have very distinctive rim/shell sounds. When you first take it out of the box, you will wonder how on earth this is going to work: it is seriously heavy in weight compared to 'normal' heads, and has absolutely no inherent tone when you tap it with your finger. But once it's on the drum, it really comes to life, with much more attack (and, I reckon, volume) than my previous heads, the Evans HD Dry. It is also, apparently, incredibly hard wearing (I don't care because I'm not a hard hitter), and really works with brushes too.Downsides? So far, none. Subjectively, is there perhaps just a tad less bounce when you crush the stick into a buzz? Maybe I'm imagining that.Overall, now that the price is forgotten, I'm completely happy. (Oh, and it looks incredibly cool too)

4 years later and still sounds great!
Not purchased through amazon, but I've owned this head for about 4 years now. SAME ONE, and it still sounds amazing! Whether you crank it up high and tight, or low and phat. This head has stood up to years of heavy hitting. I can't say enough about this head. I now have a Ludwig Black Beauty, and I'm definitely going to purchase this head for it.I feel like it's been really easy to get a great tone from this head. You won't be disappointed

This drum head should be more popular
Okay, so its expensive..Just buy it if you have a snare thats worth it. Honestly it took me awhile to take the plunge and its one of my favorite heads. I put this on a Tama G-Maple 13x7 and it absolutely sounds great at low - med - and med high pitch ranges. (I have yet to crank it really high) Sensitivity is great and really gives my particular snare ALOT of body and crack as thats its character. The feel of the skin is great as well for ghosting and didn't take long to get used too. All in all Im writing this review to thank Evans for a great product and for you fellow drummers who are thinking about it.

For the hard hitters!
Tuned right it has a great tone. It definitely has less overtones or ring to it. It feels natural to play and looks stunning too.
