I've tried a lot of different keyboards and this one is excellent! The keys are nice and quiet, and the springiness of the keys is very good compared to other keyboards I've used.The keys feel nice and it is comfortable to use. The blue backlight makes it easy to see the letters and markings on the keys. Several of the keys have abbreviations like "HM" for home, "PS" for print screen, "PU" for page up, etc. It has a standard Windows keyboard layout. The style of the markings on the keys is ok, but I'm not a big fan. Some of the keys have gaps like as if it is in stencil style, and other keys don't. It's kind of weird, but it is still readable and usable, so it's not a major issue for me.The responsiveness of it is very good as well. I haven't noticed any issues with typing, aside from typos I've made while trying to get used to it. The placement of the keys seems to be good and I can type fairly well with it with the exception of making a few mistakes here and there.The overall construction of it is very good. The bottom of it is plastic, but there is a strong metal top beneath the keys. The plastic clear trim that sticks out from the edge of it has a nice glow from the backlight, which gives it a great look.It works great with my Windows pc. If you try to use it with a Mac, you might have an issue figuring out how to use the CMD key as it doesn't have one marked. The function keys work on Windows just fine, I haven't tested it with a Mac.The backlight is a neon blue/turquoise color. It's bright, which makes it stand out. It has options to dim the light, turn it off, or set it to "breathe" mode where it basically pulses slowly.Overall, I think it's a great keyboard. I'm very happy with it.

The Surmen G1000 is a budget membrane switch full-key keyboard that has definite "bling" appeal if you order the pink version. The pink key caps are nice when combined with the ice-blue backlighting effects. The keyboard has a low profile with a slight rearward tilt, but includes some extendable feet if you prefer a steeper typing angle.The keyboard is powered by a fixed USB cable. I would have preferred a detachable one, but I understand that this is targeting a budget price point so some concessions were made. My Windows PC had no problem detecting the board as soon as I plugged it in.The ABS keycaps for letters are square shaped with a spherical recess - they're nicely sized, spaced, and are comfortable to press. Likewise the larger 2U keys have a sculpted top surface making it easy for your finger to find by feel.The metal top plate has a decorative brushed appearance and does a nice job of covering up finger prints. The plate if fairly thin, so that even with the metal top, the keyboard is surprisingly light making it easy to carry with you (although the full-size may not be as appealing for travel).The membrane switches are pretty silent, making this a good option for office use. This type of switch has been around forever, so this is nothing new. However, I was impressed with how easy it was to type with; not really what I was expecting.So, what are my recommendations for this keyboard and who is it best suited for? It's definitely more suited to an office or college dorm where others will appreciate the quite membrane switches. Hardcore gamers will undoubtedly favor mechanical switches over this.I think Surmen did a great job of offering subdued (black/white) color schemes for a more traditional look, along with the over-the-top pink/ice-blue keycap/switch light combination.If you're looking for a travel-companion keyboard, you may be more interested in a keyboard layout with fewer keys (like a 60 or 65% version). This keyboard provides you with a full key layout, but that requires a good amount of desk space. I'm not sure how this keyboard will hold up over time if it is transported on a regular basis - the build-quality is on the budget side and the keys are all very exposed without a bezel surrounding them.If, however, you prefer a full-size 104 key keyboard and are happy with typing on membrane switches, this is a nice budget-friendly choice to go with.
