The story of the USS Barb's War Patrols during World War II
A great history and a well told story of a Gato Class sub's war patrols during World War II. This is the story of one sub missions to sink merchant ships of the Japanese Empire during the War. The book gives the reader a flavor of what it was like to be in the Silent Service during World War II. The actions of the subs most certainly contribute to shortening the war by preventing war materials from getting to Japan for war production. All crew members in this branch of the Navy were volunteers and the elite of the Navy. Each member of the crew had to know every job on the boat. A great read for anyone who has an interest in this subject. "The Thunder Below" is another book worth reading; this book was written by the Captain of the Barb.
