John Thorne’s latest book is a damn fine cup of coffee. Compelling. Once I got into it, I really got into. And then I wanted to take my time with it — no whooshing through it — to absorb John’s well laid-out arguments. And to just enjoy my own return journey thru Twin Peaks. Thanks, John, for sharing your meticulously researched and carefully presented essays. My thoughts were provoked, and I even laughed out loud a few times. And while my only disappointments were learning certain mysterious elements were actually production mistakes, I suppose I’d rather live knowing certain truths (lol, especially if they’re coming from John), while also choosing to buy the theory of happy accidents. “Sold.”

John Thorne has created an excellent work here. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as his enthusiasm for, and understanding of, the entire Twin Peaks universe is awe-inspiring. Through his superb writing style, he accompanies the reader on a deeply mystical journey into David Lynch and Mark Frost's beautiful and immersive third season of the show. He explores multiple aspects of each episode, referencing Lynchian artistic stylings and meditating upon the spiritual and esoteric themes flowing through this masterpiece of television. Events, locations, characters, themes, theories and interpretations are presented and considered. This book is truly a wonderful guide, companion and commentary that serves as a glorious testament to the damn fine show that is Twin Peaks: The Return.

If, like me, you watched and loved Twin Peaks: The Return but wished you could have someone smarter than yourself offer explanations for what you just experienced, I highly recommend this book. We should all be so lucky as to have readers who can engage as thoughtfully and generously with our work as Thorne does with Lynch, and I found his theses super compelling throughout. What’s more, this book led me to find a hopefulness I didn’t expect in such a grim narrative as The Return, and I love that. I’m grateful to have come across this work, and eager to dive into a rewatch with these new ideas in my head soon.

Season 3 of Twin Peaks was an outstanding piece of film. The Return was laden with mystery and mind-boggling themes and subplots.Thanks to Thorne's fantastic book, we have a helping hand to guide us through some of the more compelling theories around this occasionally difficult work.Reading each chapter along with the episode it's about helps you to view the Return in a new way and keep your eyes open to possibilities. While you may not find yourself agreeing with every theory of Thorne, I found that they at least exercised my mind enough to come up with some theories of my own, and the ones I did agree with were further cemented in my mind following Thorne's brilliantly written analysis.I thoroughly recommend this to all serious Twin Peaks fans.
