ABOUT THIS IMAGE: This aerial panorama of Augusta, Georgia, was taken by Christopher Gjevre. Nicknamed "The Garden City," Augusta is the second-largest city and the second-largest metro area in the state after Atlanta. Long ago, the site of Augusta was used by Native Americans as a place to cross the Savannah River, which is partially visible in the upper right corner of the picture. Today, Augusta is best known for hosting one of four major championships in professional golf. The event is scheduled the first full week of April and is the first of the majors to be played each year. Unlike the other major championships, the event is held each year at the same location at a private golf club in the city of Augusta.
