A wonderful, thought provoking book
This book took me back to reading Black Beauty as a child. The story of Lir, told by the horse himself. It arrived yesterday and I really couldn't put it down. As you might expect, this book takes you through the highs and lows of Lir's life, which makes it a great read. It also challenges some conventional equestrian wisdom. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves horses.

A beautifully portrayed story
We are half way through the book - I'm reading it to my 9 & 11yr old. We are HOOKED. The imagery of Ireland's west coast coupled with a clever weaving of a whole-horse-approach way of starting & teaching horses makes for a wonderful read. I think this book will lead lots of young equestrians to question and pursue a gentler approach to horses and in turn, has the potential to change the horse industry from the ground up over the next generation. Really inspiring work. Highly recommend.

Awesome story.
I really enjoyed this book. Very well written and a book any horse person would enjoy and be able to relate to.

A true modern Black Beauty!
This book accomplishes what Black Beauty once did, showing the life of a horse through different owners, good bad and in between, and using what they do right and wrong to teach what horses need.

Black beauty for the modern age
A lovely book. I honestly couldn’t put it down and it made me tear up a few times. It’s a real modern day Black Beauty that tells the tale of a Connemara who is passed on from owner to owner, with some being more kind and knowledgeable than others. I’d like to think I treat my horses very well, but it encouraged me to think about things from the horse’s perspective even more.
