Judge Anderson: The Psi Files Volume 01

Great Action!!!
This is a great collection of stories from the Big Meg. For me, Judge Anderson is every bit the equal of Dredd, despite her radically different approach. Her quirky sense of humour is a refreshing change from Dredd's grim demeanour. Also she's a damn sexy woman! A highly recommended volume.

Grud on a Greenie!
Anderson was always my favourite character within 2000AD. Her psychic nature lent something of an occultic vibe to her stories and yet, at heart, she was portrayed as a very real and vulnerable young woman, hiding her self-doubting nature behind the thinly veiled front of an old-school noir dame. The contrast worked very well making Anderson a more rounded character, perhaps, than ol' Dredd, bringing a lot more humanity and frailty to the fore.Volume 1 of the PSI Files collects the earlier stories of Judge Anderson published mainly in 2000AD magazine and annuals from around 1983 to 1990. They are pretty much entirely written by 2000AD veteran Alan Grant and remain, even to this day, some of the grittiest comic book writing you'll find in a newsstand publication. Villains include the insatiable mass-murderer, Judge Death, with subject matter ranging from suicide to child abuse all given prominent airtime. For fans of Anderson, this is an essential purchase. The format is taller than most graphic novels to emulate the dimensions of the weekly prog, so you're getting the stories pretty much as they would have been originally presented. For newbies, this is a great entry point for Anderson; although not her first appearance within the mag, per se, it does represent her first solo-appearance, and so any back story you need is all covered in full. This is a highly recommended GN. Great stories and a variety of artwork, albeit black and white within the earlier strips. But at over 300 pages long, you're still getting a lot of bang for your buck.

An under rated British comic book character
Ahh. Cassandra once more back in my life. I used to read 200AD many many many years ago when it first came out and even Starlord before that. I was browsing Amazon one day and just by chance I put in Judge Dredd and on scrolling through the list there she was, just like allways waiting in the wings. So what can i say. Judge Anderson stories are different to the Dredd stories, she is a PSI and so the other Judges cut them some slack. They battle the other worldly creatures that attack Mega City 1 and this anthology starts off with a Judge Death tale, only pity is is it isnt the first time Anderson has faced Death and so newcomers to her tales may be a little baffled. Apart from that its a weighty tomb full of first class tales no epics like stoney face has just some quick fun reads.I for one forgot how much I enjoyed 2000AD and will be buying more from the comic, even if the wife and grandchildren give me strange looks. Zarjazzz!!!!

Brilliant ... ust how I remember it.
Nice trip down memory lane. Artwork, stories and everything else that used to be in the 2000AD comic. LOL here we are in 2020 and no Mega City One …. but this is a great binge read and worth every penny. I'll be back for more.

Great book
This book has plenty of good stories on every page and quality pictures without the need to be in colour.

Cass is Gorgeous!
I bought this book to have collection of Arthur Ranson's work, who is by far my favourite artist to have worked on 2000AD. I enjoyed the stories in this collection but other people may find these stories a bit weak. If you are a fan of Arthur Ranson then this is one of the books to get, the artwork is lovely, Cass looks gorgeous. I must get the Button Man collections next.

Slow start that picks up near the end
A long time ago, when I was about 10 or so, I started reading 2000ad. Judge Anderson was always an interesting character and quite different from Judge Dredd but the fact that they operated in the same world lead to a easy understanding of her surroundings. This Volume is about 4 or 5 years work from various short 5-10 episode stories. The early works are quite simplistic, but these start to mature quite quickly and it becomes a bit more adult and serious in tone (thankfully). Judge Death makes a few appearances but (like the Daleks in Dr Who) his iconic status has been deminished by poor story telling and frequent overuse. Anyway, back to the review. The Artwork is only so-so. Its all black and white and some of it has been badly transfered. Overall, I enjoyed the read, but see it as a stepping stone for the more serious Judge Anderson works to come (in colour). Not Bad, but not great.

Classic 2000AD
Classic 2000AD, some early brilliant art from Brian Bolland (who for me defines Dredd & Anderson), old favourites such as Death appear as well as some nice surprises. This book is excellent value for money and makes a good companion to stony face. Very easy to dip in and out of, and I'd not read quite a few of the stories. Hopefully some epics such as the apocalypse war type arcs coming up!
