I absolutely love the books from this series. I am grateful that I can get them all and really enjoy reading Christian stories about the old settlers. What a refreshing way to enjoy reading without the bad language and unChristlike behavior.

The Valiant Hearts Romance Collection by 9 gifted authors
The Valiant Hearts Romance Collection: 9 Stories of Love Put to the TestThis collection of nine historical romances offers a variety of story-lines that span the years of 1860-1929, in Michigan, Virginia, Wyoming, Kansas, Oregon, Minnesota and California from the Civil War through the Depression eras. I enjoyed reading about these brave, strong, ordinary men and women whose lives have been disrupted by war and the rebuilding after, the depression, prejudice, challenges and injustices, hopes, dreams and faith. As men and women of strong faith they have hope, help each other as they are able and surprisingly finding love as they do so in the midst of tragedies and heartache. I appreciate the inspirational elements of the stories. As a retired nurse, I especially enjoy reading about the nurses during this historical era. There are two stories that have historical notes regarding their stories which I enjoyed. One story has a recipe included related to that story. A heartwarming collection.1..By Dim and Flaming Lamps by Colleen L. By Dim and Flaring Lamps by Colleen ReeceMisprint by Kathleen Miller Y'BarboBeauty For Ashes by MaryLu TyndallButtons for Birdie by Darlene FranklinDreamlight by Janet SpaethBlack Widow by Jennifer Rogers SpinolaBirth of a Dream by Pamela GriffinHome Fires Burning by JoAnn GroteBayside Bride by Kristin BillerbeckFeaturing a wide variety of men and women who rise above their difficult circumstances to courageously face their fears and help others, selflessly and sacrificially in some cases. From the Civil War South, to the wild frontier of Wyoming and early San Francisco, to the gentile Mackinac Island Grand Hotel opening, through World War One and up to the start of the Depression, the people and history made this an interesting set of short stories. Plenty of action, including sword and gunfights, drama, adventure, and romances laced with inspiration. One of my favorites was Buttons for Birdie, with a kind shopkeeper who tries to help a former "soiled dove" in her brave mission to rescue others, with newfound faith and a few loyal friends. I also really enjoyed the Black Widow, pairing a young greenhorn ranch hand, who preferred reading law books to punching cows, with a tough Arapaho woman who's a horse whisperer and a crack shot. Home Fires Burning was quite good too, connecting back to the first story with a family legacy of nursing, from the Civil War to WWI. I really enjoyed the characters of Johan and Glorie; their sweet romance had a lot of depth.Recommend to readers who enjoy historical Christian romances!(Book provided by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest, original review.)
