Bits N Things Heinz Gourmet English Style Malt Vinegar 128 oz (1 Gallon)

Edited 2023-09-14 (for a small mistake for rice recipe)Couldn't find this in any of the local stores as all they had was small bottles.My biggest worry was that the bottle would arrive opened.I primarily uses this for cucumbers. Slice them about 2mm to 3mm thick, then put them in a container and cover them with the malt vinegar, seal and let sit. Basically home made pickles which are great for use in salads or just snacking on.It's also great for other foods too as it's all in how you use it.My favorite way to use it is like this.When I make rice, I us a rice cooker and most rice cookers use a metric cup which is about three quarters of a US measuring cup. So I use five metric cups of jasmine rice, just under a quarter cup of natural brown sugar, a pince of salt , about 2 Oz of Malt Vinegar and a five inch section of Dry Daishi Kombu.First wash the rice, then place in cooking pot, add two thirds of water, add sugar, salt and add the Malt vinegar, then stir so everything is mixed and level, then check the water level and pour the remaining water on the edge of the rice paddle just above the rice until it gets to the five cup mark. Then place the kombu in the water on top, close lid and hit white rice button.When done, either discard kombu or use it as a side dish. The rice will be Oishii. Put in a sealed container and store in a dark, cool place. Will keep a week or so without turning hard.If you put in fridge, it'll turn hard.

Heinz isn't a sexy name, and it's imported from Pittsburgh rather than the UK, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better malt vinegar, and the price can't be beat. The one gallon size is also less wasteful of packaging. Get a regular glass bottle, and you can fill it from the gallon. If you like malt vinegar, this is the one to get.

We were so happy to find a large malt vinegar to make our pickled onions!!

Packaged carefully! Very versatile in the kitchen. Delicious on fish and in salad dressing. This was a great buy compared to the small bottles.

So nice to have handy as this item is hard to find in grocery stores.
