complete illustrated history of wwII
outstanding book for getting a great overview of World War 11. I have used it to help educate my grandson (12 years old) about the war.

A beginners guide to WWII
While I consider this a nice photo catalog, it must also be said that the intended audience is for the new or causal student. The brief overview covers many key aspects of the war in all theaters: North Africa, Europe, Russia, China and the Pacific. It also has sidebars that include many key people: Eisenhower, Montgomery, Patton, Nimitz, MacArthur, Rommel, Manstein, Himmler, Zhukov, Churchill, FDR, Tojo and others. It also has short blogs on tanks, planes, subs, carriers and other weapons including Germany's special weapons and the atom bomb. There is also brief mention of the Holocaust, Propaganda, Culture, Resistance, Allied Collaboration, invasion of Japan in 1945 etc. There are also over 500 photos, some in color to study and they seem to align with the on going discussion on the page.It was given three stars for two main reasons. First, the overview is so brief; the articles are so short that you only get a glimpse into the subject. There are no long essays to do justice to each topic. The other reason is that practically every photo can be seen in many other photo catalogs. For these two reasons, its suggested that this volume is suited for newcomers to the war; they will have a broad spectrum of the war without getting overwhelmed. Plus these popular photos will be new for them. Experienced students will find little new to discover.
