Very good study aid

An exhaustive volume with useful and practical advice, but could have hada lot more interesting anecdotes and stories from real world authors placed startegically in each section relevant to the content in that section. The book is defintely for wannabe writers but not for those seeking inspiration.

Being a fledgling writer this is the best book that i could have brought. It is without doubt the most comprehensive of any 'how to' creative writing book I have ever read. I love the fact that it states very clearly in the first few pages, that if you are in it for the money to be made out of writing FORGET IT!!!! But that taken as read, the book is unstinting in it's cheerful support and very detailed advice to a budding writer, it seeks to educate as well as entertain. So in all the best kind of tutor! I only wish that I had known of it's existence years ago because i would have saved myself no end of frustration and bitter sense of failure. Buy it, you, will not regret it, I certainly don't!!!

I have several books on creative writing. Save yourself a lot of money, just buy this one. It reduces the essentials to simple lists which are logically arrived at. It expresses in clear logical ways just what you are doing,as well as giving exercises which are educational rather than just time consuming. Follow the advice in this book and you just can't go wrong. It can't write for you, and it would not want to as it always stresses the individuality of the author, but if you can't write after reading this you probably should give up. I wanted help in all sections of novel writing and I got my money's worth,. There is no area that is not covered. We should all be grateful to Maggie Hamand , she has written the definitive work for neophytes

A very comprehensive and relevant book for the beginning writer. Good subject matter, including : how to get started with writing, the elements of Creative Writing and how to find a publisher as well as other routes to bring works into the eyes of the public. Subjects are covered in depth, and I feel that I'll refer to it frequently. What I particularly liked is that this book encourages you to write for the sake of loving to write whilst also emphasising that one should be oneself. Throughout the book there are many helpful hints, websites to visit and exercises to try. I certainly wouldn't hesitate in buying it if I wanted to "get into" creative writing. It is very well worth the read!

If you haven’t flexed your creative writing muscles in a while or you’ve been suffering from writers block this is a brilliant guide to learning how to start again. It’s been a few years since I’ve written anything after suffering from writers block for a while and this guide really helped me start, it lays out the tools you need to begin really well and the exercises are very helpful - would definitely recommend, but please remember no pint of books is going to suddenly make you a writing genius, it takes time, dedication and practice and I definitely think this book helped me get back into my writing chair again :)
