Not just for beginners!
This is an excellent set of rock tumbling polishing grit. I believe the sellers intended this for possible beginners, but I'm using this set and I'm very experienced. I love trying out different brands of polishing media, because you never know when you'll come across some really great media.This set includes 1 through stage 4. They've also added a little variety of rocks to tumble, and some jewelry pieces to make some necklaces.A very nice addition that most sets don't offer is a jar of ceramic pellets. These pellets are used in the tumbler with your rocks to help fill in gaps and space. As you move through each stage, you will lose density as you are polishing "down" the rocks. So having the ceramic pellets helps fill the tumbler so rocks don't hit each other hard and chip. Note: only use ceramic pellets that have been previously tumbled during steps 1 and 2, when you are doing your pre polish (3) and fine polishing (4) stages. Used ceramic pellets are already smoothed and won't scratch your polishing stage rocks.The best feature of this set is the stage 4, which is aluminum oxide. That is the best polishing media to get a smooth, glassy shine on your rocks. It's nice that they give you the aluminum oxide instead of silicon carbide-which doesn't polish as well.I'll be starting this set soon. It takes about a full 4 weeks to do all stages and have the final results. As of now, 3/3/2024, this set is 23 doll hairs, which is a great value for the quality, and completeness of this nice set.*Please view pictures and any video as I consider them part of my full review.

Doesn’t work.
I ran stage 1 for 9-10 days and it barely affected the rocks. There was a huge amount of sludge at the bottom of the barrel. It didn’t seem to disperse as it tumbled.I also tried the stage 4 and it was a waste.
