Frank is hooked by a very streetwise taxi driver-Betty Garrett;Jules is hooked by an anthropologist-Ann Miller,all in the breathless and spectacular chase for Gene to hook Miss Subway Turnstyles -Vera Ellen.The music by Leonard Bernstein includes New York,New York (its a wonderfull Town),Come up to My Place, Miss Turnstyles Dance, and A Day in New York Ballet.Produced by Arthur Freed and Directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen 1949.An earlier film from 1945 in the same vein-"Anchors Aweigh" features Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly as sailors on special leave looking for female companionship in Hollywood.They have to take a lost little boy home on his way to join the Navy,and both fall in love with his Aunt Lucy-Kathryn Grayson who looks as beautifull as she sings.Jose Iturbi features as himself conducting a spectacular Naval Band, and playing piano. Sinatra sings "I Fall in Love too Easily" by Sammy Cahn, and Kelly dances with a Jerry Mouse Cartoon figure.Thouroughly enjoyable.The film "An American in Paris" conjours up the artistic Montmarte area with Gene playing a Painter, Oscar Levant a composer pianist,and Georges Guetary a rising stage singer.They perform the comedy song "An Umpah pa by Stausse," and other great Gershwin music.Leslie Caron is the Ballerina, and Nina Foch plays an Art Dealer.The interplay between reality and fantasy scenes is romantic and beautifull. "Our love is Here to Stay" features Caron and Kelly by the Seine, and also in a 17 minute Ballet towards the end of the film; Directed by Vincente Minelli; Produced by Arthur Freed-"S'Wonderfull"-it certainly is.This Box set includes "Singing In The Rain" where Gene teams up with Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds,in 1951,with music by Herb Brown and lyrics by Producer Arthur Freed:Directed again by Kelly and Stanley Donen.Jean Hagden gives an unforgettable performance as Nina the beautifull silent screen star of 1927, who does not transit into the new "Talkies" because of accent and personality.Completing the set is a dynamic swashbuckling 1948 version of "The Three Muscateers" .Gene is a naive rustic lad who rises to a Muscateer of Louis 13 of France in 1625.Lana Turner is a plotting Lady deWinter. Vincent Price is Cardinal Richelieu.Angela Lansbury is Queen Anne(not writing Murder),and June Allyson plays a faithful, gentle Constance.Great comedy,costumes and settings.

My wife and I caught the second half of "Anchors aweigh" on TV recently, by accident. It was a Gene Kelly film we hadn't seen and having seen the second half, we wanted to see the first half!! So I went to Amazon to see what was available and came across this boxed set. I ordered it immediately. There are still two of Gene Kelly's films in the set that we haven't ever seen and we look forward to having the time to sit down with them, as well as renewing our acquaintance with the others.Meanwhile, I can really only make two comments 1) If you like Gene Kelly, you'll love this set. They really don't make musicals like these any more, and 2) It is extraordinarily good value for money!

Great selection of Gene Kelly films. Something for a rainy day when you need cheering up. Singing in the Rain is always a must.

On The Town and Anchors Aweigh both star Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra and are about sailors on leave. Lots of comedy mixed with great dance routines and lovely songs, even a bit of classical piano music - what is not to like in these two films? The Three Musketeers is the only non musical in this box set, albeit very 'Hollywood' it is full of big name stars including Vincent Price, June Allyson, Lana Turner and Angela Lansbury. A bit tongue in cheek but a good film all the same. An American In Paris has some great dance routines and good songs. But my favourite is Singing In The Rain. An absolute gem of a musical; can see this over and again. Great stuff!!

I loved All the films in the collection.

An absolute must for any fan of the Great Gene Kelly.Along with Frank Sinatra looking younger than I have ever seen him as well asDonald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds - This collection shows the best of all theirtalents. Overwhelingly though, Gene Kelly is at his best, On the Town and Sining in the rainmust rate as two of the best 40's / 50's song and dance films.Just awesome - Buy it!

Superb movies. Decent Quality picture and sound. Nicely packaged. Loved watching the Musketeers again - the colour was rich and deep and the sound quality as good as when I first saw it as a child. They don't make em like this anymore. Buy you won't be disappointed.

This was used as a Christmas gift and was well received. It was in perfect condition on arrival

This is the first set or actually any movie from Gene Kelly I have ever seen and what surprised me was how enjoyable it was. The biggest reason I guess I like this set so much is the fact I say to myself that "they don't make them like that anymore" when I watch them. Even though they are older films they are still very enjoyable and found myself liking the way the films were shot and I would have to say my favorite is between On the Town and Singin in the rain. I know a lot of people love these films and I really didn't get them for me but for my kids for Christmas. Though they are young kids I hope they will enjoy watching them as well and I have a good feeling they will. My almost two year old daughter was watching it with me the other day and as she watched them dance I could see her little toes in her sleeper moving back and forth. My almost four year old already gets a kick out of seeing people dancing in movies. They don't really care much for the story but that's o.k. considering their ages but if they are like their mom they will enjoy musicals. Overall though I really don't like musicals that much but I am very happy with this purchase of these classic Gene Kelly flicks.

Eine gelungene Sammlung großartiger Kelly-Filme, die den Hauptdarstellern z.T. akrobatische Spitzenleistungen abeverlangt. Musicals der "guten alten Zeit". Für mich spielt in diesem Konvolut "Brigadoon" vom Komponisten Frederick Loewe eine herausragende Rolle, da es zwar - sicherlich zu Recht - im Schatten des unübertroffenen "My Fair Lady" steht, aber zweifellos seinen unverwechselbaren Charme gewinnt durch die versponnene Sagenhandlung, die im reizvollen Kontrast zur modernen Aufgeklärtheit des "american way of life" steht - ein ungewöhnlicher Musicalstoff!

As described, great condition, and arrived on time. These were at the height of musicals, and Gene Kelly is phenomenal. Other greats, too, like Anne Miller, one of the greatest tap dancers of all time. I saw her perform in the late 1990's, and she could still out tap anybody. She was still very beautiful in her late 70's. Lovely set!
