Silverline 248838 Duplex Rebate Plane 38 x 2 mm Blade

Liked everything about it.Helped a friend build a summer house and it was excellent for awkward places and easy to handle.

For just over £20, I didn't have high expectations but I'm quite happy with the plane. It felt like a bit of a punt given the mixed reviews, but it honestly matches my skill level (novice!). I was able to sharpen the blade with ease and get it set up in under an hour. I did have to file excess paint off in some areas (most annoying section at the throat, not sure why it would need paint there anyway!). Fence isn't great, there's a bit of play unless you really crank it down.I own a router but I prefer not to make lots of noise at the weekend. This is a good alternative!Don't expect premium quality at this price, but certainly worth £20 in my opinion.

The iron (blade) needs to be flush with, or slightly project from, the sole of the plane on its right hand side. If it doesn't it cannot cut an accurate rebate. With the iron levelled up at the frog there was a 3mm to 5mm recess where the blade should be. The only way to reduce the recess so the blade was nearly flush with the right hand edge of the sole, was to remove the cap screw - as can be seen in the photo - but without a cap the plane cannot function.This was such a bad defect that I started to doubt myself and played with it far longer than I should have but it is now on its way back to Amazon. In short, really awful manufacturing with possibly a total absence of a functioning quality control system. This should not have emerged from the factory and certainly not have reached the consumer.

I'm very happy with this purchase. The plane i received was not exactly as pictured, it was better, being black painted and had the two bar fence guide so less potential movement. Great plane for the money, sharp blade and usable out of the box once adjusted correctly. Best though to clean, set up and hone the blade further.

I bought this as a bit of an experiment to see if a £20 duplex plane could work. And it does but not straight out of the box it needs work but most planes need at least the blade sharpening. The blade is very rough blunt and un even but after 20 mins on a dimond plate it had an edge that was shaving the hair off the back of my hand. The whole plane needed an oil change right from the box as it was swimming with corrosion preventing oil so don't open it any where you don't mind getting greasy. The tool is thick with paint so had to clean and file some off to get parts to sit better. The blade adjustment is either very shallow or very deep I'll work on that later. It's a work in progress but it does work well enough for £20.

For this price I did not expect some higy quality and to perform right of the box but this tool has major fault in the production. Blade is not sharpen to any grit, it has few nick in the edge and it is 1mm thinner than the plane sole so you can not cut full size rabbet as sole will ride on the wood. Blade is also poorly made so you can not protrude blade far on the side and you can not make sharp corner cut. Blade depth adjustment is poorly made and it is protruding 4mm in the iron bed so blade is not in contact with the bed. Iron bade is rough and full covered with junk of paint so iron is rocking on it.Nicker for cross grain cutting is in reality only screw, there is no any nicker blade so you can not use it for cross grain cut. I have replace this with marking gouge disk blade and smaller screw but it is noSome thing you can repair and get it to cut, but overal it will never perform as it should. After few hours grinding sole and the side and repairing depth adjustment, I manage to get decent finish and straight sole and some performing. I don't recommend this to anyone, only if you have machine shills to repair it.

Esta muy bien, la guia esta bien ajustada, en la otra cara del cepillo lleva una pequeña cuchilla que corta la madera para impedir desgarros.En general una buena relacion calidad precio

Necesita de bastantes ajustes y rectificados antes de poder usarlo. La cuchilla hay que cuadrarla bien, ya que de fábrica no viene con sus cantos a escuadra y por último un buen afilado. En relación calidad precio no está mal, y si tienes paciencia y entiendes de cepillos y cómo ajustarlos puede ser sin duda una buena compra.
