My wife does a lot of knitting. She is really good at it, but she has trouble counting stitches and dropping stitches once in a while as she has trouble seeing with the lamps we have in the house. But no more! This DAYLIGHT task light is simply awesome. As they said, it can be focused to a 3 inch spotlight, or spread to a two or three foot wide area light, just by slipping the lens down or up on the adjustment cylinder. The adjustment is one of those things that surprised me: It isn't threaded, or pneumatic, or anything fancy. The focusing lens housing simply slips up and down on the gooseneck cylinder because it is slightly bigger. I pointed it straight down to see if it would slip under the weight, but it stays exactly where I left it. As far as the base is concerned, it is quite heavy and sits like a squatting Bhudda statue on our medium pile rug. To kick this thing around you would have to break a toe, and I don't understand folks who said it wasn't heavy enough.Comments on other reviewers' complaints:WEIGHT OF THE BASE: Like I said, the base is quite heavy and gives excellent stability, even on pile carpetSPREAD OF LIGHT FOR READING: ? Three feet isn't enough? It is for me. Even a newspaper gets a good coverage, unless you are within less than two feet of the light itself.POLE SEGMENT THREADING: Mine fit perfectly from top to bottom. I started at the bottom, pulling the wire out as I screwed in each segment. Went together easily and fit perfectly.OVERALL STABILITY: Mine is very stable and the threaded sections appear to stay together just fine. Of course, I don't make a habit of kicking or banging the lamp a lot, any more than I would a table lamp, but my unit is very tight and secure.POWER SWITCHES/CONNECTIONS: There is a metal toggle switch on the back of that lump you see in the photo, where the gooseneck attaches to the pole, and there is an inline power connector about two feet from the base of the lamp. The power connector is fairly solid but you must remember that it can become disconnected if you pull at it. The toggle switch is mounted in metal and is solid. I have no problems with the unit we received.So. I must conclude that the manufacturer listened to his customers and corrected all the problems, or a few folk got units that missed getting a quality control inspection. Either way, by purchasing this via Amazon, it is guaranteed to work properly and be of good quality or Amazon will send you another one or refund your purchase price. That's good enough for me.I love this lamp and intend to buy another one. Thumbs up!

Reasonably priced. Well made. Light beam focuses from a wide beam angle to a very tight small beam. As bright as i needed it to be. The base is sufficiently. heavy to keep it stable. it is almost as tall as I needed but wish the goose neck was about 12” longer for my particular needs. I am contacting the seller to see if they have a taller version of this light

Though inexpensive, this floor lamp looks great and the light is just right for reading. It adjusts easily and fits well into small spaces. I would buy it again!

This lamp is perfect for reading alongside your favorite chair. The light can focus down to a small circle or light up that corner of the room. Easily assembled and also an attractive lamp!

Pros: The lamp arrived well packed in multiple pieces. It was quite easy to assemble, has nice lines and the metal is a rich, warm color that works well in an autumn-toned room. The light is also excellent, both in tone and flexibility regarding how tight or diffuse one prefers the beam to be. Cons: The metal pole is comprised of a few tubes that screw into each other without anything provided to stabilize the finished stack. In other works the pole sections could loosen and potentially come apart if the lamp is moved or bumped into. Also, the plug is quite large, so cannot be slipped inconspicuously under a rug for use in a floor socket. While I don't see it as an heirloom purchase, it is a terrific looking and functioning reading lamp for the price.

This lamp is ideal where you want a focused beam. I have it next to my husband's recliner and it bends over his chair giving him enough light to read or use his tablet. It provides plenty of light and has an easy on-off switch that is readily accessible. The base is fairly small so it doens't need a lot of room and can be positioned close to a chair. The gooseneck is flexible enough that you can focus it just where you want it. The light is quite bright, though, so you have to angle it so that it's not shining toward someone else in the room.

I purchased this for my wife's birthday for reading. the item shipped in January and her birthday is at the end of March. She used the light twice and the next time she turned the light on it started flickering after about 2 mins. of use. We tried a different outlet but the results were the same. Totally not worth the price.I realize it was past the return date but I thought the light would be ok as it was never opened until her birthday. I contacted Amazon to complain about the total lack of quality. This was not an expensive light, around $100, but to break after using it twice is nonsense. Amazon offered to send a replacement or I could get 80% of my money. I am taking the money. It seems there are a lot more poor quality items on Amazon these days which is very disappointing. I will be a much more cautious shopper in the future.I do greatly appreciate Amazon's handling of this issue and give them 5 stars for their customer service effort.

Love this “to the point” light. Really highlights where you point it and when working on dark knitting yarn this light is invaluable.

Great light for reading. Bought for a senior who likes it. The negative is the light bulb CANNOT be changed. Once it burns out THATS IT. Otherwise, its nice looking and very easy to assemble.
