Five rolls of 20 biodegradeable compost caddy liners which are also 100% compostable. Made from a cornstarch polymer, the bags break down into carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, leaving no contaminants. Use them to line your compost caddy, and then throw the whole bag plus contents on to your heap or into your composter. These bags are made by Ecosacs, and designed to fit the Bio.Box caddy (available on a separate listing). However, they fit all kinds of kitchen composters, from 5-litres to around 7 litres. As a guide, the Bio.Box measurements are: 23cm wide x 18cm deep x 20cm deep. FURTHER INFORMATION Biodegradable sacks are different from 'degradable' sacks, which are polythene sacks with an additive which speeds up its breakdown. Biodegradable sacks break down into simple elements, leaving no residues. Ecosacs have the 'OK-home' accreditation, which is specific to performance in home composting with food waste. The cornstarch used to make the Ecosacs is GM-free and the crops used are industrial grade - not taken from the food chain. As composting systems vary widely in efficiency, it is not possible to give a precise estimate of how long the bags will take to biodegrade. But in order to achieve their accreditation, tests performed at 20-30 degrees C at a max. of 182 days proved that no more than 10% of the original dry weight remained at more than 2mm in length.
