The thermometer can't be used without it.527°F ambient temperature temperature limit can easily be reached at grate level on a grill, so the thermometer is probably best suited for smoking and baking.As far as I can tell there is no indication that the thermometer is charging or charged when it is inserted into the base.Overall I am happy with the bluetooth thermometer. It works as advertised.

I ordered this wireless thermometer because that was tired of sneaking cables during my smoker's door. I had to use 2 different probes to get the temperature of the meat as well as ambient temperature of the smoker. This added to the complexity and may need less likely to use it. I saw various brands of true wireless thermometers, but they are all too pricey. This one was perfect. It offers all the same features of the name brands without the expensive price tag. The app is relatively easy to navigate and can switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit. There were no issues connecting a thermometer to my android phone. Overall, I am very happy with this product and would definitely recommend others.
