Don't You Mean Dinner Party?
Borrowing part of the concept of my 2004 Donner Party Cookbook A Guide to Survival on the Hastings Cutoff (2nd edition in press), this version of the Donner Party Cookbook focuses on recipes, poetry, and humor. The tragedy of the Donner-Reed Party is one of the best known stories of the old West. Since many of the party resulted to cannibalism to survive the concept of a cookbook about cannibals is in the realm of dark humor. Recipes include Crepe Suzette, Pawnee Pigeon Pie, and Steak Diane (or whoever). The authors season twenty six old-timey and colorfully-named recipes with jokes about the feast that is forbidden. I'm going to try the "Old Fashioned Ox Tail Stew" and compare it with my Ox Tail Soup. This book will make a great gift for those memorable cooks in one's life. (Hopefully they will not be offended.) Perhaps we can arrange a cooking contest at a book-signing. I wish the authors the best of luck with their book.
