Solid and heavy. I didn't realize it would be as heavy as it is. I use it to crush chia seeds and peanuts. This tamper is very well made with a nice shiny finish. Kaffe' is a great brand and makes great products. Heck, this tamper is too pretty to place in a kitchen cabinet or drawer. It can actually serve as something a decor piece.

I just got my first espresso machine and was not satisfied with the included, plastic tamper, since I abhor plastic contamination, especially in contact with anything I ingest. So, I ordered this one. It’s super solid and impressively heavy, like a miniature weight. It’s perfectly smooth all over, and it feels nice to grip. It really is very, very nice. The brand name on the top looks nice enough, and I don’t feel that the design will rub off easily so as to look awful. This is super shiny, and it picks up all fingerprints, which is one of the reasons why I would want to clean it daily. Unfortunately, it doesn’t fit my portafilter, but that’s okay and definitely my fault. When I ordered this, being an espresso noob, I figured tamper sizes were standardized, but it turns out they’re not, so they vary between within a few millimeters of each other. I’ll be on the lookout to find a tamper that first my 51mm portafilter, even though I think this one is so incredibly nice.

This is a fantastic traditional tamper for a great price. (under $20). This is a great feeling heavy tamper. Weighing in at exactly 631 grahams. That's 1.4 LBS of pressure on your coffee before you add any force yourself, making tamping easier and with the big round handle it is very comfortable to push down with an additional 20-30 lbs of force.All that said this is NOT FOR Breville Baskets! This tamper is exactly 54mm per the description and my measurements, but the Breville basket that came with my Bambino Pro has an inside diameter of only 53.6mm, making this tamper too big for use with Brivelle baskets. When people say the Breville baskets are 54mm they are measuring from the outside, not the inside, so this tamper won't fit at all. (see photos). For Breville you need a 53.3mm tamper. These are sometimes advertised as 54mm tampers making things more confusing for the consumer.

This tamper is solid and HEAVY! I wasn’t expecting it to weigh as much as it does. It’s a good thing, just unexpected. The finish is shiny and this is a quality made tamper. Please measure to ensure a good fit, but the size is as expected. This is an excellent option and budget friendly too. I will update as needed but this is a nice choice for anyone making espressos.

We have an espresso machine that says it uses 53mm baskets in the portafilter, but the 53mm tamper we got with it is a loose fit. It turns out our baskets are bigger than 53mm, they're more like 53.5mm. This 54mm tamper from Kaffe measures 54.1 (actually my non-professional quality dial calipers show it varies a tiny bit but is mostly 54.08mm). Whatever it is, it's too tight a fit for our baskets, but I should have expected that. My mistake was thinking that tampers were nominally sized rather than accurate, but I was wrong. Baskets, on the other hand, are nominally sized- among the three baskets we have none are exactly the same. My bad for not doing my homework before ordering. What I got is a very good quality tamper, nicer than the one I've been using which cost about triple what this one does. What I noticed first was how heavy it is, and how smooth the surface is. The face of the tamper is flat and polished to a mirror shine, and the attractive logo is etched into the end of the handle. This is a thing of beauty; even as I'm writing this I'm thinking of how I can possibly turn down the diameter of this so I can use it. It came packed in bubble wrap and a cardboard box, which I respect- the money isn't being spent on presentation cases or other fancy packaging. If you need a 54or 54.1mm tamper, this is a very good one. Without a way to measure your baskets accurately it's hard to know what you actually need, but I recommend making the effort to determine that before you make the same mistake I made.

I got this to crush hard foods since my wife's teeth are very sensitive. This tamper is very heavy, solid, polished steel. It is absolutly beautiful and would make a great paper weight if that was the only use you had for it. I love this thing and highly recommend it if you need a solid tamper.
