Just After Sunset

I'm not sure how I missed the publication of this collection of author King's short stories. I usually buy or receive his books on the first day of publication. But it did make for a nice surprise to be able to read a new (to me) book by the master of the dark and unimaginable. This Constant Reader was a happy camper.There are thirteen stories in this book and I enjoyed each and every one of them, although the last story in the book A VERY TIGHT PLACE almost made me puke. Ugh...what does it say about me that it was my favorite story in the book?King, when he's in top form, is the all-time best at short stories. He brings his characters, good and bad, alive on the page.Oh, and another thing I liked about the book were King's notes about each story at the end of the book.I highly recommend this book if you aren't plagued by nightmares or too vivid of an imagination.

It goes without saying, though I'm going to say it because it's so obvious from all my King reviews, that I am definitely a fanboy of Mr. King. With the internet and the chance to post reviews ad nauseum, a lot of reviewers rip apart books and even write paragraph after paragraph, ruining the story and the plots. I think a lot of these people fancy themselves "authors" and feel the need to prove it by writing short stories about someone else's work.My review of this book like all my reviews of Mr. King's books is short and sweet. "Just After Sunset" is a collection of short stories and they all kept me interested from start to finish. I have never read anything from Mr. King that he didn't capture my attention and keep me coming back for more. He's done it from the time I was a teenager and he continues to do it now that I'm 60. I couldn't imagine growing up without being frightened and entertained by The Master.

I somehow missed this collection while waiting for Under the Dome, and I'm so glad I found it just before the release of Mr. Mercedes.What a romp! Since Mr. King has provided us with a helpful tidbit of information on how each of the stories in this collection came about, I don't need to review each one. What would be the sense? Suffice it to say that all of these stories is a perfect example of his incredible talent.While he doesn't go quite to the level of horror, he does manage in every one to chill the bones, warm the heart and sometimes scare the bejesus out of the reader.In his notes, he states that Willa is the weakest, but he nevertheless liked it enough to include it. I disagree. I really enjoyed it as I did all of these. Perhaps, Stationary Bike was my favorite, but they're all great.And now, comes Mr. Mercedes. And, by the way, I think Lisey's Story is his best novel.

When I thought there would be no more, I yet found another volume of stories by Stephen King. The stories are all of various nature, he explains them all at the end, which he clearly tells you is a spoiler alert, but great reading when you are done, to try to imagine where these stories came about! To here it from him, they just come natural, some based loosely on his life events, but boy he draws greatly from his imagination that he has never forgotten from his childhood, the boogy monster in the closet. Not all gory, one entertainingly gross, as only Stephen King can speak of such subject matter without one throwing the book down in disgust! Lol, even himself admitted that the story I am referring to grossed him out a bit. Buy it for sure!!! A great read on my pc FREE reader - just took the laptop to bed!!! *when reading on your PC laptop in bed, always make sure there are no blankets and such covering up the device's fans.

Finally! A Stephen King book I loved! Usually I want to 'blue pencil' the heck out of his books as he tends to go 'bla bla blaaaaah' over and over again. Apparently he loves the sound of his own [written] words. But this collection was wonderful! Nothing was overdone. Every story was enjoyable in its own right. Fast read, great stories. I loved the bicycling story the best, hmmm, maybe it was the cat from hell, or... nope, can't pick a favorite, not really. All were enjoyable, even Mr. King's afterword. Perfect. Thank you Mr. King!!! So much better than the wally lamb bla bla blaaah I read just before your book.

This is a great collection of Kings stories from years back. N. and A Very Tight Place are my favorites! Dont pass this read up!

5 stars of course...its a collection of stories from the King!As always when I read anything from Stephen King...I can't put the book down.. I read into the night until I fall asleep and then wake up in the morn wanting to read some more before I go to work.Love me some Stephen King and can't wait to until next time..thank you from one of your constant readers...

Yet again Stephen King has produced a collection of short stories that are guaranteed to keep you reading. His variety of subject matter is treat for those of us who love to be entertained and fascinated in equal measure ......he seems to have a unique and never ending scope for the macabre and chilling .Long may it continue to be so......

You’ll be fooled every time you start one of these stories that you’re reading about everyday occurrences and “normal” characters... then, every single time, King pulls the rug of reality from you and leaves you dangling in an abyss of the unexpected and macabre.

There is nothing wrong with the writing style and some of the stories such as "Stationary Bike, The Things They Left Behind and "The Gingerbread Girl" are very good. The best story may be "N", but this is arguably a development of "Crouch End" with its obvious HP Lovecraft influence. Another very good story is "A Very Tight Place" which is the flip side of "Dolan's Cadilac". In the past SK has been accused of recycling stories. This is not fair but some of these do seem to be developments of previous stories.

Stephen King is still a good writer, I have to say that the characterisation is excellent, so many stories, some quite long and others can be read in one session. Glad I got this book

Good to read at bedtime as there's a definite place to stop. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone who likes creepy stories
