Teesri Kasam by Raj Kapoor

When I look at the past I really feel sorry for Indian cinema. A sensitive and poetic film of this class sank at the box office, leading to the death of its producer Shailendra due to financial crisis. This film is today recognized as one of the best movie by all critics and actors. Film is based on a story of the Phanishwer Nath Renu, one of renowned Hindi writers.This film portrays story of Hiraman, a bullock cart driver and a dancer Hirabai. Hirabai is attracted to Hiraman due to his simplicity. She is going to a fair by Hiraman's bullock cart to perform in drama. The bond between two grows stronger as the day passes at fair. But finally as the fair comes closer to end, the parting seems imminent due to external factors. Finally when fair is over, Hirabai has to go and two separates.To quote Star and Style's review of the film, "The way the cart driver and nautanki dancer meet, talk and discover each other and themselves at the same time and the manner in which they part are like a poem on celluloid with a thread of pain running through it." Raj Kapoor and Vaheeda Rehamn has given the best performances of their career. Songs are worth listening for hours. A must watch.

One of the greatest films I’ve watched in my life!A sad romance in the entertainment.Enjoyed the plot, music, scenes, and virtually all the elements of this film.The ending is …. just great!A national award winner, no wonder.

A simple man from the Country (Raj Kapoor) and a professional dancer (Waheeda Rehman) meet by Chance and spend some time on the road together - he's a Bullock-cart Driver taking her to a fair, where she will perform. And slowly, the not-so-Young Bachelor falls in love with a woman from a completely different Background, who trusts him, likes him, but apparently hides something from him...A sensitive film in black and White with fine Music, and great Performances from both Raj Kapoor (this time he does not Play for the Gallery) and Waheeda Rehman, who offers a fine Balance between performing many wonderful song-and-Dance sequences and skilfully portraying a young woman who already has seen life. I like this film A LOT!

Fantastic film. But lousy DVD. Just refuses to work. These sellers must be banned. Or DVD return must be allowed.

An old, national award-winning movie. Beautiful acting and superlative songs. A strong story. Superb rendition of village life up North. It poses a difficult question which does not have an answer unless social norms are broken. Heartbreak follows and viewers are forced to re examine themselves, their beliefs.DVD qualities are fine.
