Be careful, there's no reversing to get something out of the cutter
It's a beautifully made tool. The sweeping ratchet arm is, quite simply, art. And it's good for its intended purpose, cutting things that are softer than the blade. The tool itself is labeled for 2 inch , but for US consumption they gave a more conservative roughly 1 inch. The release lever only releases the rotating cutter to move forward, once it has been locked by the handle. It drops the tooth that prevent forward movement. There is no way to release the ratchet teeth that prevent reverse motion. That means that if you have a finger caught in there, you would need to cut the tool off of the finger, being careful not to ratchet the handle which would cut further. I think this should be a common safety warning, but I don't see it anywhere.Do not use this tool unless you are an adult and in a good frame of mind. Do not let children near it; it's too pretty. A curious mechanically minded child could trap a finger in there, and even you could not get the finger back out. Also this means that it's important not to try cutting materials harder than aluminum. If you get steel cable stuck in there and cannot complete the cut, you may have to discard the tool, or at least make several cuts through the steel with power tools to release it.My first application for this was to cut through a wooden branch I wanted to remove without using a power tool. It did it easily, but when using this with wood, I found that the wood can clog up the gears. I recommend blowing out the wood chips from the gears between cuts.A nice piece of machinery. Respect it and be careful with it.

Does what it is supposed to do!
Got this for my guy as he has a lot of wire to process for recycling as part of his work. Works well for copper and aluminum, which is what he's currently using it for, but he says it'll work great to cut practically anything. It's a hefty handsome tool made of strong steel and the red handles make it easy to find in his tool bucket.

Handy compact cutter
My husband wanted a small cable cutter to use from time to time. The cable cutter he had was a big long handled cutter that takes 2 hands to use. It was so big and bulky. This cutter is small and compact in size. It says it’s a ratcheting cutter. When he used it, it doesn’t seem to ratchet properly. He is thinking that maybe it’s because it is new and maybe will loosen up in time with more use. You have to let the handle fly open so that it does ratchet right now. When it does ratchet, it works and cuts the entrance cable fine.

Cuts slow, but it cuts well. Large.
This had no problems going through service entrance cable. I'm not sure how long it will stay sharp, which is my only concern. However, it is heavy and I imagine you could sharpen it yourself if necessary. It does cut fairly slowly, but that is a byproduct of power in this case. Thanks.

Sledge Hammer Won't Smash a Pea
Pretty much useless as far as I'm concerned. I ordered this because I thought it would cut big cable. I saw the big number 240 mm and the big cutter / ratcheting jaw - said,"AwhhhEsoMe," and ordered it. I've cut a lot of 1/0 with it but it takes way too long to do; if I'm lucky the ratchet works about half the time - which mans I'm squeezing the handle twice as much as I should have to. I've been looking forward to trying it out on some BiG Cable I have – I figured that's where this cutter would shine. The cable is BiG – it's 3 Phase 1/0 with ground (4 insulated 1/0 cables with Insulation encompassing all of them). Probably 'bout 1 3/4” to 2” diameter. Cutter fits around it fine – but - nothin' Ratchet won't engage, cutter won't cut. I checked out the marketing and saw that that 240 number was squared – like all metric cable and wire. The square root of 240 is about 15.5. 15.5 mm – are you kidding me? That's less than 5/8” - I can cut that with a standard wire cutter and very quickly with a bolt cutter. This tool does not function well enough to do what it is rated to do well. What it is rated for isn't even worth having it for. It is a sense waste of 43 dollars. Guess I'd say – not recommended. I think I'd rather buy a sledge hammer that wouldn't smash a pea - at least I'd have something to show folks.~ Thanks for Reading – Have an Incredible Life! ~

Reliable Tool for Tough Jobs
I got this ratchet cable wire cutter for a big project in my husband’s workshop. He needed to lay new electrical lines for a machine that needed a lot more power. The wires he had to cut were thick, made of both aluminum and copper. This cutter was just what he needed. The sweeping ratchet arm is really top quality. It handled the thick wires, making clean cuts without fraying or squishing the wires. Using this cutter saved him a lot of time and effort during installation. He and our son-in-law were able to get all the cables properly prepared and installed quicker than I thought possible. It’s a robust tool that performs excellently. Anyone working with heavy-duty cables would find this cutter extremely useful.

Powerful, but ratcheting mechanism has issues
This tool is quite awesome for cutting super high gauge solid core wire, but is difficult to get it to work sometimes. I found that it would often fail to ratchet correctly when applying a lot of force. I was able to make progress by forcibly opening the tool all the way, then forcing it down all of the way; heavy emphasis on opening it completely until you hear a click noise. It didn't require much force to cut through 2/0 gauge 7-strand core wire though, which I think is awesome. For occasional use, I don't think it's terrible. I doubt a lot of people are cutting such heavy gauge wire constantly; if you are, go with a more heavy duty tool and don't cheap out. A miter saw would honestly be better, but obviously space limitations make that infeasible at times.
