Good Brief histories
I am currently reading about the FL before Jackie Kennedy-actually saw Jack and Jackie in a parade in 1958 in Holyoke, Ma. I remember Mamie Eisenhower but did not know much of her life. Bess and Harry was a good book also. Bought one on Lady Bird-though she was after Kennedy as I don't remember much on her. Eleanor Roosevelt was fascinating!

Good read
These interviews about the Firls Ladies made me feel as if I'm getting to know them personally, and not just as a lesser name in history. Loved it.

Good reference on First Ladies
The book contains a ‘chapter’ for each First Lady. The format should be easy to reference. I have another book that covers the Presidents, so now I can read the stories in greater detail from both perspectives.

i bought this book for a history lesson on first ladies
Interesting until I got to current day first ladies, and it was a big democrat lie. I was very disappointed as history is only changed by man as this book was. I wondered how much the early first ladies was misrepresented.

Wonderful inside looks!
I first saw an interview with the author on PBS and was intrigued. The book is excellent, incite full, and easy to read. I enjoyed it thoroughly!

Heart and souls of the first ladies
Book gives you a snapshot of who these women were as mothers, wives and political partners. Also details how these women came to be wives of the presidents. Very informative and sometimes heartbreaking.

... a book that is a companion piece to an excellent C-SPAN program that ran for many weeks in 2014
I am a little surprised at the previous reviews of a book that is a companion piece to an excellent C-SPAN program that ran for many weeks in 2014, and is being shown again even as I write. The format of the book is clearly stated in the introduction. Perhaps the problem is that those unfamiliar with the television series on C-SPAN were disappointed that it wasn't just thumbnail sketches similar to " The First Ladies of the United States of America", published by The White House Historical Association. That book was revised in 2013 for the C-SPAN program. This newer book on the first ladies is presented in a conversational style, edited by Ms Swain for a reader who wants more in-depth information from historians.
