The Wild Side: Extreme Sports: Critical Reading Skills

Great resource for teaching reading.

I bought this book for struggling and reluctant readers. They were very interested in the extreme sports stories that were available. I was particularly interested in them honing their reading skills. The critical reading skills that are addressed in this book are: main idea, vocabulary, synonyms/antonyms, inferences, recalling facts, paraphrasing and summarizing, and author's purpose. The book is separated into themed areas and allows students to make connections between the stories. I highly recommend this product for homeschoolers and teachers who have students that may not be at grade level. I extended the activities by having students write a full summary of each story that they read.

Great book. High interest and addresses reading comprehension and critical reading skills. Also, the stories are age-appropriate.

Fun reading. Kept students attention the whole time. Many students wanted me to put the book in the library so they could check it out.

Recommend by my sons teacher. To "prevent the summer slide". So far so good.
