Beautiful
I originally ordered this as a gift but it’s too nice, I’m keeping it for myself. The covers looks like hardbacks but they’re actually flexible (some kind of rubber?), and I might need a magnifying glass to read the text. But they’re beautiful books and I look forward to reading them.

Just amazing…
Always been a fan of the Lord of the rings and the Hobbit - decided to get a bit of an upgrade from the paperbacks and let me tell you - these looks extremely cool on a shelf and feel premium to hold - could not ask for a better product to represent such a a good series of books!!!

The best set of Tolkien's books I've seen
It's the best set of Tolkien's book I own and I wish they would do the same for the silmarilion and the other books. If you are traveling that's the ideal size, each book can fit in your pocket and the quality of the cover is really good too.

Just beautiful.
Having read the books as a kid, then again just after the original trilogy of films came out it only recently occurred to me I don't personally own physical copies of these books.Love Tolkein so a good looking boxset for the bookshelf was a must.I agree that the writing is small, particularly in the main trilogy, and I understand if you haven't read these books before there are probably better options but as a collectors edition these can't be beaten for the price.

Poor wrapping resulted in damaged books.
I have my own set of these books and they're beautiful. A family member of mine had admired them and I purchased this set for them for a gift. I'm very disappointed in the wrapping of the books. The plastic packaging had come off and someone had put sellotape on the books. This sellotape damaged the vinyl covering and the item is damaged. Of course I now can't give them as a gift. Just very disappointing because the books are beautiful and this could have been avoided if the books were wrapped properly.

Small but cute
They arrived yesterday and are really lovely to feel and look at. Yes, the text is small and the pages are thin, but I’m not sure what else to expect from a “pocket” version of an epic!I’m looking forward to rereading the whole set

Pocket book sized
These are smaller than a normal paperback, so the text is very small. Entirely my fault, should have checked the dimensions and thought about it a little.

Fantastic box set
After recently re-watching the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings films I decided that I wanted to read through the books. There were a few different box sets to choose from, then I stumbled on this one which looked like a fantastic set at a really reasonable price. The books themselves are described as paperback by Amazon and look like hardbacks in the images. I wouldn't say either description is accurate. They have a rubbery imitation leather feel to them, which is really nice. The lettering on the covers of the books is pressed in, rather than printed which is a nice touch. The covers are flexible but strong, which makes these books really comfortable to hold, regardless of how far through them you are. The type of binding also makes it really easy to have the book fully open without feeling like you're going to damage it. The books are presented in an open top box with the same finish as the books, with lettering again pressed in rather than printed. In terms of size, these books are slightly smaller than my previous paperback copy of The Hobbit but roughly the same width. The text size is fairly small, but not to the point that it is difficult to read (at least, not for me). The Hobbit appears to have slightly larger text than The Lord of the Rings volumes. The paper feels like good quality paper. There are also full page images and maps in the books. Although The Lord of the Rings is split into three separate books, the page numbers continue from where the previous book left off. For example, The Fellowship of the Ring book ends on page 398 and The Two Towers book begins on page 399. This is useful because at the end of The Return of the King there are approximately 130 pages of appendixes, including an index section covering all 3 books.I would highly recommend this set to anyone looking for a good quality set at a reasonable price. This is a fantastic way to present a fantastic set of books and I honestly cannot find anything to grumble about.
