This review is for the 4K release, not the movie itself
Originally released on Blu-ray in 2012 as part of a triple pack feature from Echo Bridge, this newest release is a HUGE step up in video and audio quality. From the Blu-ray.com review by Brian Orndorf;Shout Factory returns to the title in 2024 with a "new 4K scan from the original camera approved by Joe Chappelle." This is an exceedingly dark feature, with most of the action taking place inside unlit rooms in the middle of the night. Frame information isn't lost during the Dolby Vision viewing experience, with blacks mostly deep, and compression holds together. Detail is strong, capturing skin particulars on the cast, exploring age and wounds. Cold weather costuming is fibrous. Town interiors are open for inspection, showcasing decorative additions. Exteriors are dimensional, reinforcing rural isolation. Colors are sharp, exploring cooler hues with evening sleuthing. Red has presence with lip color and blood. Greenery is distinct. Skin tones are natural. Highlights are tasteful. Source is in good condition. The 5.1 DTS-HD MA mix remains active during the run time. Dialogue exchanges are crisp, balancing quieter emotional moments and more heated yelling matches. Scoring supports with sharp instrumentation, and musical moods explore the surrounds at times, adding to suspenseful moments. Sound effects also go circular, with elements such as vehicles panning around the listener, and creature activity is delivers fun movement on occasion. Atmospherics are appreciable. Low-end awakens with more violent engagements. With an overall score of 4.0 out of 5.Despite being a bit of an odd mix of characters, the movie itself is quite fun, recommended for fans of the film over any previous release to date.

Probably better than it's reputation
Been asked several times to write a review about this one and after watching it a few times, feel ready to comment. I came to this movie as Phantoms was one of my favorite Koontz novels. Not exactly sure how closely it adheres to the book but the story is there if you look for it. It does have it's moments such as Stu's ravaged corpse and a Golden Retriever presented as a genuinely threatening presence but has it's valleys as well, the Stu-thing doing the limbo springs to mind. It is an eighties movie after all.Would offer here that have had some minor issues with pauses in the playback with this disc but nothing serious. Picture quality is excellent as is the sound.

You da bomb in Phantoms
The first time I saw the movie was on the 4k disc. Well... it's fine... nothing special. A movie of two halves to be sure. Worth checking out for a late 1990s sci-fi/horror.

Phantoms
This is one of those films that came out and then disappeared. A boxoffice flop when released in 1998, it as since become a cult classic. A cross between invasion of the bodysnatchers meets John Carpenters The Thing

Love This Film
I've seen Phantoms more than a handful of times and I'm always entertained. It's one of my go-to movies when I'm not sure what mood I'm in. Sort of a cult film, but not so quirky you won't understand the plot. Good performances, special effects and gore without going over the top in either area. Liev Schreiber is just weird enough. 4-1/2 Stars.

"..A DECENT ENOUGH 90'S HORROR.."
This review is for the movie and the Italian Blu-ray import.PLOT...In the peaceful town of Snowfield, Colorado something evil has wiped out the community. And now, its up to a group of people to stop it, or at least get out of Snowfield alive.Released in 1998 Phantoms is a decent enough horror to have fun with, a supernatural horror thriller about an old and ancient entity that has been wiping people out on earth to feed, now a small group of survivors must stop it, the cast is decent, Affleck is an ok lead as well as the sexy Rose McGowan in her tight nipple jumper just like in scream! The effects and make-up for the creature and mild gore is pretty decent budget, a few CG effects but good overall, a decent music score. its not perfect but great fun none the less, a pretty original late 90's horror worth checking out. Not available on Blu-ray in the UK but this import is great and plays in the original English language audio.Blu-ray had a decent HD picture.Features include a small featurette and cast interviews (20mins total) trailer.Region FREE ABC for UK. Running time 96mins. 1998.English language movie and plays in the original English audio. Plus Spanish.English and Spanish subtitles. (can be turned off)Comes in a slim black case. Features play in English (subtitles can be turned off)
