I loved it. I thought it had some really funny ...
Contains spoilers. The first time I saw this movie, I loved it. I thought it had some really funny moments, and I liked learning more about Anne. The movie tells you about Anne's life before she went into hiding, while she was in hiding, and then everything after. The movie was amazing up until they got to Auschwitz. It was still pretty good when they were at the transit camp before they got to Auschwitz. After that, everything hits the fan. It is sooo hard to watch the film after that. It's heartbreaking and horrible. You just feel so bad for Anne and her family. It's so hard to watch Anne being forcefully pulled away from her father, shrieking his name, and listening to Mrs. Van Pels scream peter's name. One thing I've never understood is how Otto Frank went on after everything. Eva Schloss, his stepdaughter claims he was never broken or bitter, and I have no idea how he wasn't. The poor man lost his family. He had nothing. It's a beautiful movie, but it's heartbreaking once you get to the concentration camps. I think the actress who played Anne is beautiful and looks a lot like her, but this is a hard movie to watch. I read the book this movie is based on, but for once, the film is so much better.

Good film with editing.
I really like this version of Anne Frank; however, I also find some parts of it inappropriate for my 8th grade students. I had to watch it ahead of time and make notes where I needed to skip over parts (where Anne actually starts her period- shows the blood on the bed, when she was curious about puberty and wanted to feel her friend's breast, nudity- these scenes just aren't appropriate for my students). I wish these parts could be edited out because overall it is an excellent film and my students truly enjoyed it.

AT LAST!
At last, this stunning ABC mini series is coming to video! (I am ordering mine as soon as I finish writing this review!).At last we can see the full story, from before the diary and after, and it's everything we could imagine!Hannah Taylor-Gordon plays Anne. After a pain-staking casting search, the requirements that the actress should bear a clear resemblance to the real girl and have a solid acting style were clearly found in Gordon. She is truly the epitome of what we envision Anne to be.Rounding out the cast are Ben Kingsley as Otto Frank, Tatjana Blacher as Edith Frank, Brenda Blethyn as Auguste van Pels and Lili Taylor as Miep Gies.Filmed on location in Prague, the entire production is flawless and is based on Melissa Muller's book on Anne, not on the actual diary itself. If you love the story of Anne, you will love this new mini series. Your heart will sing, soar and break.

Watch before showing
I felt that this film did a great job of showing Anne's life and complimented the play "The Diary of Anne Frank." However, teachers need to be aware that there is nudity in the film that I felt was not appropriate for my middle school class. This is brief and I solved the problem by covering the screen and describing to the class what was happening. This takes place in part 3 when Anne, her mother and sister are brought to the concentration camp. This edition is broken into three parts: before going into hiding, the secret annex and after they are captured. Each does a good job of showing what life was like.

Good Review
Although, I have not finished watching the video, what I have seen so far has been good. The movie is easy to follow for the grade level that I am currently teaching. The students are also enjoying the video as well. I have not had time to access the teacher portion of the video yet. I will update review again, once I have completed watching.

MUST SEE
Ben Kingsley's finest performance .... I have shown this film to students for over a decade, and the final scene still brings me to my emotional knees every year. I have read and viewed many depictions of Anne Frank's story, and this is the film which best captures the spirit of the precious child and her priceless diary. If you are struggling to decide which Anne Frank movie to buy, this is the right choice!!!

Used for Classroom
I used this in my classroom after an Anne Frank Unit. This is the best Anne Frank film that I've seen; it's the only one that follows the family into the concentration camp. I love the details put into it! It does have a brief nudity scene, which I had to skip over, but other than that, it really shows the life Anne had and the horrors of concentration camp life.

Teacher Resource
First of all this version of Anne Frank is by far the best casted and portrayed. The characters are easy to relate to and the storyline flows easily. My students are in middle school and they were enthralled by the movie. The interactive activities were relevant for my ELA class and provided some great discussion. Overall I strongly recommend this video with interactive DVD to any classroom teacher or parent.

A dramatized version of events
Too dramatized for my expectations and I wanted something more realistic. I've visited the house learnt the history and not sure the DVD does it justice. It tells a story but I'm not sure it is as true as the book actually tells it and I would have preferred a more factual rendition. Somehow it misses out on the fear and emotions that the family must have gone through and centers more on the characters.Books are always more personal, and films often don't match your own ideas and this for me was a bit too much of a stretch from the books and facts that I read.Actors are great and the film has a sincere message so please give it a look it is worth watching but the real thing is a bit different. Judge for yourself.

Stunning
This is probably the best adaptation there is of the Anne Frank story. I say that, there is a new one on BBC coming out so I shall wait for that but until then I'd recommend this one. Most of the other reviewers have already said what has to be said about this DVD so I shall just add that I think that it is a shame that this film does not have extracts of the diary narrated. It's a small point but important. But since I have rated this 5 stars anyway it is still really powerful and I'll say that even the most manly of men (me being one of them) will be moved by this stunning film. If they are not then I wouldn't boast about it.This DVD does have some historical inaccuracies, blah blah, but those are so small that all you have to do is remember that we still do not know who betrayed Anne Frank and look on wikipedia for the rest. It really does not spoil the film.I know this has already been mentioned (if it hasn't then I'll be the first to say it), Hannah Taylor-Gordon's acting really makes all the difference. I'm surprised we have not seen more of her. Fingers crossed we will thoughAnd another note, this DVD is nicely cheap (at least it is at the time of writing this)so even if you are still undecided then take this opportunity and get it. You will not regret it.

Well worth watching
Well-written 'whole story'. This differs from the (later, extremely good) Ellie Kendrick version in that it does not use Anne's words and also details much more of her life after going into hiding, featuring her life in the concentration camps. At times I felt that Ben Kingsley as Otto was not well-directed as he seemed to struggle to know how to play the character. But I thought that the rest of the supporting cast was fantastic. As a portrayal of history this is extremely good. (For aficionados of the actual words used in the diary, watch the Ellie Kendrick version; both versions have their merits because they come from different points of view.)

Excellent
Excellent. We bought this after reading the diaries and just prior to a visit to Amstetrdam to visit the house where it all happened, my wife is a primary school head teacher and they use the subject as project matter at times. I found the diaries themselves quite laborious while this edition of the film was excellent, sticking close to the diaries though not in as much detail, ie mentions the start of her periods etc but doesn't over labour them. Seeing this film definitely enriched our whole experience when we visited the house which had been replicated in the film with amazing accuracy. Would recommend.
