ok but contains parabens
The price of this product is reasonable for the concentration and quantity. 400IU of synthetic vitamin E is not that strong but is ok. The soft gels are green not yellow as you would normally expect, which I guess doesn't matter. You are meant to swallow them but sometimes I chew softgels like Vitamin E to help them get absorbed more quickly in the mouth. The taste is not great compared to others, and again that doesn't matter if you swallow them. However, I am rating it as 3 stars because of the ingredients. Firstly it is described as 'natural vitamin E' on the amazon listing, whereas on the packaging it just says vitamin E. Nowhere does it say what the chemical compound is and at this price, from this type of small brand, it is most likely the common type of vitamin E, DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate, which is synthetic and half as potent as actual natural vitamin E, D-alpha tocopherol. But this is just a listing issue at least. Secondly, the listing does not state that it includes any preservatives. However, the packaging includes 'preservatives' on the last line of the ingredients. I enquired what they were and was told 'Class II preservative'. I then asked them to clarify what they actually are and was then told methyl- and propyl-paraben. Parabens are more common in creams and so on for the skin, but slightly less so in edible supplements. It is not the worst thing in the world, and there is little evidence it is harmful. However, I'd rather take another Vitamin E supplement without parabens in it. So the packaging and listing need to be updated to be more specific about the preservatives. Just saying 'preservatives' is almost meaningless. So I am giving it a generous 3 stars instead of 4.
