Stars and Strife: The Urgent Call for U.S. Leadership in the New Space Race
In his latest offering, Dr. Autry meticulously chronicles the evolving contours of the new space race, casting a discerning eye on the intensifying competition between the United States and China. With a narrative as compelling as it is enlightening, Red Moon Rising not only maps out the trajectories of the two superpowers in space but also underscores the urgent need for strategic U.S. responses in this high-stakes contest. The author, a revered authority in the space industry, brings an impressive depth of knowledge to the table, combining robust research with insightful analyses. The book eloquently argues that the stakes extend beyond national prestige to critical issues of security, economy, and technological leadership. The emphasis on the U.S. needing to catalyze its efforts and foster innovative partnerships resonates deeply, especially at a time when global dynamics are rapidly shifting. What sets this book apart is its ability to weave complex technical details into a narrative that is accessible and engaging. The author challenges the U.S. to not only match but exceed its counterparts' ambitions through enhanced public and private sector collaborations and a renewed commitment to R&D.As we stand on the brink of a new era, Red Moon Rising serves as a crucial beacon for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the general public. It’s nice to see a plan and the things that led to the underlying decisions
With interests in both space and history it’s hard not to love “Red Moon Rising”. And when a book has an extensive list of citations you know it’s a series piece of work. Yet it’s quite readable, the professors wrote a book for regular people not just fellow academics.I had various pleasant surprises while reading. For example, a discussion of a possible solution to some of our renewable energy generation and storage problems that have not quite been resolved. Perhaps an important missing piece to our efforts. Moving the solar panels to space and safely transmitting the energy to underground infrastructure on earth. With respect to topics that were unsurprising, for example various entrepreneurial efforts, Space Force, allies and competitors, etc., I appreciated the serious discussions and the presentation of viable ways to move forward. In short, it’s nice to see a plan and the things that led to the underlying decisions.

Red Moon Rising is the best book on the geopolitical landscape of the current space race!
Author Greg Autry’s in-depth information about China and the geopolitical climate in space is spellbinding and fascinating to read. One of my new favorite books. The insight and works cited are current for today’s space age- there is a race for the moon and Red Moon Rising unveils the complications and necessity for the US to gain momentum. Top leaders in the industry are ordering the book and using it for reference!
