Real ragg wool socks for actual cold weather OUTDOOR use!
ATTENTION: These Fox River Norsk ragg wool socks may appear in your confirmation email as women's socks. That is not the case, these are unisex socks. Now, onto my review-Let me preface this review by stating I am an avid outdoorsman. I hunt, trap, fly fish, camp, backpack and sleep rough in the Northeast and I do all of these year 'round and I have worn this precise brand and model sock for over 40 years. This means I have a fairly good grip on what works. And these socks WORK. A higher wool percentage than Wigwam, made here in the U.S. of A., and made here with extreme quality for 123 years.I read one reviewer complaining theses socks were small like children's sized and scratchy. Well, darlin', I think you're lookin' fer lounge socks. These here socks are made for people who don't do that sort of thing. Here's why; loose wool socks slip down into boots when moving and all insulation is lost. Not to mention that creates hot spots and, subsequently, blisters. All of this is bad news if you're 100 miles from the nearest road.I suppose they may be considered scratchy if you're used to silk socks in your wingtips over your moisturized and pedicured lil' piggies. But I've never found them to be so. Especially when wearing a good, soft merino wool undersock when the temperature dips double digits below zero. Also, their 80% wool construction means they retain their insulative properties, even when wet. (I recommend not getting wet in the cold, period. But if you do, wool is your ONLY option to avoid frostbite or worse!).These socks are designed for durability and warmth as well as comfort, as long as your definition of comfortis closer to "This'll keep me from dying" than it is to "Bring me another glass of wine, Gives".My son and wife both wear these when we do a few weeks hunting encampment in the winter and we've kept all of our toes in three foot high snow. They are and have always been advertised as machine washable, but I've never tried. I hand wash & hang dry and have with these socks since my dad bought me my first pair in 1979.If you spend any real time outdoors, be it for work or leisure, you MUST purchase these Fox River Norsk ragg wool socks!

Awesome socks!
I got my 1st pair a couple years ago after searching for heavyweight socks to wear with my L.L. Bean Boots. These socks have held up so well that I just purchased a 2nd pair for a trip to Mt. Rainier and the Pacific Northwest. They fit well with both my regular hiking boots and L.L. Bean Boots, and have been great for light hiking and exploring. They have good cushion, wick sweat away, and keep my feet warm. Because they are wool, they don’t get stinky. I don’t find the wool itchy at all but it does have a rougher texture, as to be expected of Ragg wool. I usually wear a women’s 8.5 or 9 in shoes and ordered size Large (9”-11.5”). They fit well and are the perfect mid calf height. They hold their size and shape well.I own other socks from Fox River and they are all great quality and excellent value. I also love supporting an American owned company that manufactures in the USA.

Socks as Memory-Makers
I had my first pair of these socks years ago when I was healthy and spending a great deal of time working outdoors. Not only were they warm and durable, they also were just stretchy enough without being too stretchy. (I have a whole drawer full of other socks that feel more like tourniquets than socks!) Fast forward to the present when I'm much older and dealing with cancer treatment-neuropathy in my feet as well as my ever present Raynaud's syndrome. The latter causes the blood vessels in my feet and fingers to suddenly contract and results in cold to the point of pain in those areas. Between the two, I needed some serious socks even though I wasn't nearly as active as I used to be. Enter these socks from Fox River. Not only were they of the same high quality I remember from ages ago, they brought back lots of good memories this holiday season.

Super thick
A bit itchy for me but wow are these ever warm! Super thick and solid great quality though they actually fit a bit long in the foot from heal to toe. Well made.

Great wool socks
Comfortable. Low elastin is important to me as I am sensitive to it. I don’t like tight wool socks yet these don’t have trouble staying up. I always look forward to wearing this pair when it’s turn comes up in my drawer.

Warm.
I have liked this type of sock for many years. I usually bought bigger ones and could put polypropylene liners in them as well as a lighter wool sock when really cold. I worked outside for many years in a cold climate. These socks are less roomy, but still not small. I wear a 9 1/2 EEE

Tight fit, with no give
Nothing like Ragg wool socks of old. These are small (I wear men's 9 1/2 shoe size) and the heel barely covers my heel. No give at the top of the sock. The toe seam is large and will rub your toes. No room for liners if you use those. And actually they're kind of thin, all things considered.I wouldn't recommend these.

They are the best socks for comfort and durability I've ever
I've had Ragg socks before and it's taken me years to find more once I'd worn them out, which takes some doing. They are the best socks for comfort and durability I've ever owned
