ONGUARDAkita Loop Cable Lock

A great lock! The optimal blend of security, size, weight, and convenience.
OnGuard makes great locks. This lock is no exception. I have owned several OnGuard locks throughout the years and they are the only bike locks I use. (I no longer buy kryptonite locks ever since the kryptonite bic pen fiasco - google it!)The "Pitbull' line is OnGuard's line of medium-level security u-locks. The "Brute" line is OnGuard's line of highest-level security u-locks. Although stronger, the brute u-locks have the downside of being very heavy (I own one). For me, this pitbull mini u-lock is the optimal blend of security, size, weight, and convenience. It is lighter than the brute series, but still contains the same high security (european) locking mechanism and design. This u-lock is the perfect size for locking my bike frame to a bike rack, sign post, or parking meter. I then use the included cable to wrap up my front and rear tires, and thread it through the u-lock. This u-lock also fits nicely within my bike frame with the included bracket (see attached picture). The u-lock is very securely fastened in the bracket, and I haven't had any problems while biking around, or noticed any rattling or noise.*** UPDATE, MARCH 2017 ***This look still works smoothly. I haven't had to oil it yet, either. I have noticed that some vendors are selling this at unreasonable prices. Shop around!

Good luck, wish the mounting bracket extended a bit further
The lock and cable are well made. The lock functions well. Keep in mind this is the mini and may be a bit tight locking your bike somewhere. The only issue I found with this lock was the mount. I wanted to mount the lock within the inside of the frame on the rear bar, but because the mount doesn't extend far enough, the lock itself rubs against the tube. The instructions suggest mounting on the rear bar of the bike, but to the SIDE of it.

Keeping my bike
Double bolt with a 14mm harden shackle, laser cut keys, free cable and sold secure gold!!! Just call me Pee Wee Herman!! Two U locks, cable, locking skewers and seat post clamp = bike is where I parked it... Angle grinders only and be prepared to make 4 cuts and that takes a long long time! Seriously this is a lot of lock for under $35usd (I paid $32)

worked fine for 2 weeks, then totally broke
Dropped on the ground from handlebar height, not something that should break it. The covering on the shaft moved so that the keyhole was covered, it couldn't be moved back, and the lock had to be thrown in the recycling bin. waste of money and left me lockless

Key hard to turn.
Sometimes these are good. Sometimes they bind. This lock binds. My other onguard lock is amazing

Sturdy
Second I bought, second time no regrets.

This is probably the best light weight & small bike lock ever!
I have a few bikes and lots of bike locks (old onguard standard bulldog u-lock, kryptonite combination cable lock, kryptonite standard NY u-lock, kryptonite NY noose chain lock, Abus chain & discus padlock and Bully alarm/pager u-lock). I put a different bike lock in the bike bags on the rear bike racks. I like my old onguard bulldog u-lock but this onguard pitbull mini u-lock is definitely stronger with the thicker shackle, has less shackle clearance which is better against leverage attacks but is smaller and is a little bit lighter too. The mini bulldog may lack security and the brute mini is too heavy and costly to me. The pitbull mini u-lock is just right. It saves me space when space is very limited in my bike bag. This mini u-lock weighs only about 2.5 pounds which is really good. All those "2 pound and less" folding locks sounds great and all but are pretty much junk because they all can be defeated pretty easily at the joints. The only con is that the mini u-lock can't lock up the frame and rear wheel at the same time (not including Sheldon method). I think one can use a mini u-lock with the rear wheel/spokes and chainstay to a small pole so that is locking up both. With the standard u-lock, you can lock the frame and rear wheel. I do use the included 4 foot cable to lock up the front wheel, helmet and rear wheel though with my mini u-lock. If you are looking for a small, light weight and strong security u-lock for a good value, I believe this is the best option. No it isn't the strongest security bike lock around but it isn't as heavy and expensive either. When I ride my bike, size and weight of the lock is an important aspect. If you have a real expensive bike and in a high theft area like NYC or college campus, you may want to pay for a more expensive and super high security lock like Kryptonite NY standard u-lock or NY noose chain lock.

If I could take back all the stars I have given to all the products I've bought from Amazon to give to this, I would. It's a stunning piece of kit, one of the highest rated locks, really well put together and combined with a beautifully supple steel cable to lock the front wheel while the D lock secures the rear to the frame. This is smaller than many others in the range, making it much more manageable and light. It even has a proper tethering mechanism to secure it safely to the frame without fear of coming loose or scratching the paintwork. I bought its big brother in error but will keep it for more permanent fixing.. or challenging David Blain to a serious contest. You simply could not ask for a better security system for your bicycle

Very good lock
Very good quality lock easy to unlock and lock back up just the right size nice amount of room to fix to a bycycle post but not too small but wouldn't be able to lock two bikes up on a post together it fits just right in my frame I have a 18" frame and it fits nice in there it was easy to install the fixing braket only took 10 minutes get 5 keys one with a light on it so that will come in handy

Good product for the money, be careful of size though, very small
Good for the price, very small though, so small unusable in bike rack, only useful if you plan on locking your bike to a pole.People have said that the lock fails sometimes, if you leave it in the rain WD40 should stop the lock rusting or freezing, occasionally oil with bike oil, good product for the money if you plan on locking your bike to a pole, light and easy to transport.

Don't risk you're bike going walkabout! Buy a lock like this!
Makes for a perfect second U-lock for me and my needs! Might be a bit on the small side to properly lock a bike through the rear triangle and wheel so please take this into account if you want this for you're main lock and want to lock you're bike properly. The standard size of this lock will be you're choice if that's the case!Having had a bike stolen recently, this time around I wanted to do things properly. I use this to lock my front wheel to my frame in conjunction with a OnGuard Brute to secure my bike and rear wheel. The cable is perfect for connecting both locks and keeping my saddle tied down. I now feel a lot more confident about leaving my bike around town.As for the lock, really nice build quality, hefty but without the weight of my Brute. Love the look On-Guard have gone for in the newer locks. Really stands out and makes a statement to any wandering eyes. I personally throw my locks in my bag when I take them with me so can't comment about the mounting bracket but seems hefty enough. The LED light key is another lovely touch and there's plenty more conventional keys includedSold secure gold rating for a product 1/3 the price of the competition...Buy with confidence!

Feels solid, and strong, but heavy
I have the larger Onguard locks, so wanted something smaller and lighter as it does not make sense to spend money on a light framed bike and then go buy a few Kilos worth of a lock to lug around make the whole bike feel much heavier. It's a good solid looking lock. I can't feel a massive difference between the larger Onguard locks and this smaller one in terms of weight. But understandably as the metal is 14mm thick to make it resistant to cutting, it probably needs a lot of hard metal. The cross bar looks about the same size as in my other Onguard locks.Recommended for the security but only if you don't mind the heavy weight.
