Steer clear of Casablanca. Last fan I will buy from them.
Bought this fan over two years ago. Just got around to installing it. IIRC, the fan was sold as factory reconditioned, so I bought it at a discount. This was apparent when I opened the packaging: it clearly had been returned but was in good external condition. All of the major parts were in place, even if some small assembly screws were missing - not a big deal. The first problem I have with Casablanca is that they really try to dumb it down for the average consumer, making it inconvenient for experienced installers. In this instance, the fan came with a radio-controlled remote control module and a cheap looking battery-operated remote control wall switch which required no wiring. That's great for the average consumer who isn't an electrician and who doesn't mind replacing batteries to operate a cheap wall switch that doesn't match the rest of the switch plates in a room. However, I have a wired wall switch - I want a wired switch that will operate the dimmable lights and multispeed fan motor. My first crack at making this look better involved a wired Lutron switch with a remote control module that should have worked, specs the same as the factory remote module. Wired everything up, light comes on, but no fan. Tried putting the original Casablanca remote module and fan switch in place. Still wouldn't work. I ended up having to tear the damn fan down to the motor assembly to find out that the motor run winding was open. It wouldn't have mattered what switch I tried to use - this factory reconditioned fan was NEVER going to work. I get that this was a recon, but come on....I tore down the fan motor assembly, and the first thing I saw was two wires clearly broken (see the picture). Some diagnostic testing confirmed that this was the run winding and why the motor wouldn't work. Also, saw where the factory reconditioner had repaired the start winding connection from the motor to the wiring harness with solder. I soldered in a wire to repair the break, but that was just the beginning of my problems. In order to make this fan work with a wired wall switch, I basically had to bypass the remote module by hard-wring the fan light and motor to a new wall switch after having to pull another three conductor Romex cable from the wall to the fan. This was a huge PITA. Thankfully, I had the requisite skills to fix their broken fan which had supposedly been factory reconditioned and figure out how to wire the damn thing; an average consumer would never have been able to do this, and, being a recon, I'm sure Casablanca would not have honored any warranty.Bottom line:Based on the time value of my labor, for the amount of time I spent repairing this fan and installing it, I could've bought a new fan or much nicer fan...and probably paid someone else to install it. Casablanca's product quality and quality control sucks - I will never buy another Casablanca product.

Great fan, improved model! Extremely quiet.
I love this fan; I've got two of them now, and am happy to see they've improved it further. My first one had the round nicks all over the blade that looked more like styrofoam bits stuck to it than 'weathering'. This latest one came with *much* improved weathered blades, AND they're two sided -- one side has none of the nicks or marks in them, so you can choose which side to display. Also, the remote/fan pairing instructions used to involve only pairing one fan at a time -- that is, I'd have to disconnect power to my first one in order to program my second one, which I wasn't looking forward to. But the new one came with the remote and receiver pre-paired, saving me extra work. The low fan speed is perfect for sleeping, and even at high speed the only sound you hear is the whooshing of air. Very well-balanced, no rocking at all.Light is a little harsh, but I rarely use it. The dimmer works, but has to be activated by holding down the power button then pressing the light button twice. I didn't realize this on my old one, and had been living without dimming for a few months, until I read the instructions provided with the new one.

Excellent fan, mediocre switch
I bought this for it's larger than average size and lower profile. I had a Hampton Bay ceiling fan installed prior and the led lights of the Casablanca gives for more head room be about 3 -4 inches. The fan itself works great, easy to install, I opted for the none distressed wood side which is pictures and it looks really nice.My biggest complaint might be the switch which is NOT wired in. It's a remote that inserts into your light switch area, operated by a small disc battery. While the remote does work, it takes a second to recognize the command, so instead of flipping a switch and walking away I tend to linger by the switch for a second to make sure what I pressed registered and was correct. I will probably end up investing in the actual Casablanca universal remote, which i might have to update this.

The fan has a nice contemporary look
The light dimming feature does not work, it is only off and on. The fan has a nice contemporary look. I purchased the remote as well and I like that you can reverse the direction of the fan without getting on a ladder. The 'natural' distressed look of the blades is a bit cheesy for such an expensive fan.

or if the markings are caused by poor packaging or if this is just a manufacture defect
All five of the blades I received in the package were nicked with deep white marks, dark notches and indents on both top and bottom sides and the darker walnut coloring bleeds onto the lighter side in several spots. The overall look is very "rustic" and not at all "contemporary" as advertised. I am not sure if this is a standard look for the Zudio blades, or if the markings are caused by poor packaging or if this is just a manufacture defect. The fan mounting and base are beautiful (hence 2 stars instead of just 1) but I am very disappointed in the overall look and will need to replace the blades.

Not what is advertised! Quite disappointed......
I am very disappointed in this fan. The blades are distressed and look terrible. Unfortunately, I was not present when the fan was installed; otherwise, I would have returned it. Now, five months after installation, the entire switching mechanism does not work. On, off, and the light itself is faulty. As a loyal Amazon customer, I am at wits end with this situation, and the fact that if I had bought from a local store, most likely I could have returned it. Right now, I would love to hear from Amazon customer service!

Not up to Casablanca standards! Wish I had not purchased.
I had a professional install this fan. Could not get the fan to react to the controller. Casablanca told me it was under warrantee. They sent me new parts. Company representative installed parts, but charged me $150. He said, the warrantee was voided since it was getting power through the dimmer switch from the old fan. It was like that so I could have light, until repairs were made. Now it has started making periodic noise. It is loud enough to hear over the TV. The fan looks great. I have had more than six Casablanca fans in the past without a bit of trouble. This fan is an big disappointment.
