I tried to set in the car just to test then but they refuse to stay in place, but my car has very narrow elbow support in the doors so no much area to set it, in the center rest it was better but still not perfect. But I did not get it for the car, I needed some arm rest for my desk at work, I use trackball instead of mouse and needed something to keep my arm comfy, for this it does work perfectly, a but taller than I needed but good anyways. Now I have one set close to the wrist and the other closer to my elbow and the arm is well rested like that. The material feels nice, is some kind of spandex polyester, and the memory foam cushion is soft and nice.

I find these elbow pads to be very comfortable and the cover material has a nice feel. They are just a little bit wider than the door panel armrest on my late model Ram 3500 (which is where I need them most) but the anti-slip surface on the bottom helps keep them from slipping - it's not adhesive and can be re-positioned as needed, and that's helpful to me on long trips. Just be careful though that they don't fall off/out when opening/closing the door. Overall, in my opinion, the product description and pictures accurately reflect the product that I received and yes, I do like'em!
