Recommended, especially at the current price ($28.99 at the time of this review). This is not an $80-plus, higher-end set, let alone an $120-plus luxury-level set. Rather, it is a mid-range set, made with leatherette, with plastic pieces and plastic dice - but nice. In fact, despite being priced at the low end of mid-range sets, it has a quality look and feel. The size is smaller than some mid-range sets, but not tiny - the case is roughly 7.5" x 11" when closed, and roughly 15" x 11" when open - more than large enough for adult hands.The leatherette case and points are surprisingly nice. Stitching, seams and felt base all appear well put together. The pieces are plastic, but polished - no obvious blemishes - nicely centered pips on the dice and centered, squared numbering on the backgammon cube (a/k/a the doubling cube). Actually, the '16' on the backgammon cube shipped with my set has a slight skew, but you'd have to be looking for it to notice.The set comes with minimalist instructions - enough to figure out the basics of play, but with one or two unexplained references in the written portion. Diagrams are clear, providing enough context to clarify most shortcomings in the text. Near the end is a very brief "strategy" guide, followed by some very sound advice. - seek out gameplay on Youtube and learn from experienced players.The set is warrantied for workmanship. Even better, the company offers free replacement of lost parts and pieces, providing both phone and email contact information. That impressed me if for no other reason than the rareness of that promise. In fact, I was impressed enough with the product as a whole that I took a look at the Amerous store page on Amazon - they sell a range of game sets. If you are prone collecting things when you find a good vendor, then beware - every set I saw appears to be of much the same design quality.

There are a lot of nice touches in this AMEROUS brand backgammon set, like an extra checker piece for both colors, a doubling cube, and a superb 8-page instruction booklet (see 1st attached photo). All this, along with a padded artificial leather case and carrying handle, make this an ideal backgammon set for travelling, or an awesome gift for someone interested in learning to play the game. In fact, although I'm not a student of backgammon per se, I've been playing backgammon for decades, so I was pleasantly surprised I actually learned a few things by reading the great little instruction booklet that's included (see attached photos 2 through 6). Even more surprising, the instructions are very concisely written in clear, straightforward English with excellent grammar.Although the gameboard is only the size of a pygmy attaché case, it's actually big enough that you won't feel cramped or overly constricted while playing. This isn't an expensive luxury set, nor is it heavy-duty enough to get a quick game or two in during lunch break at a construction jobsite, but it's completely adequate for travel, picnics, excursions to the park, camping trips, outdoor leisure time, or taking to the coffee shop ("Tea time, anyone?").The asking price ($28.99 at the time this review was written) isn't cheap, but this board is sufficiently well-made that it should last a while with moderate use. Highly recommended, especially as a gift. 5 stars

Really enjoying this compact set that comes in a good looking case. When I say compact I don't mean tiny, just a bit smaller than a normal sized set with equal the fun. The size does make it easy to store in a drawer or on a shelf so that's a plus.

Smaller than the one my family had when I was younger but would make it easier for bringing it along with other games to play with friends.

This is a beautiful, yet highly portable backgammon set, with everything you need, except for an opponent. But your opponent will be pleased to compete with you on such an attractive board. The pleather work is quality with no uneven stitches. The board is perfect. The handle and latches are sturdy. The pieces are all standard, but nice. I will be glad to compete on this, and am confident you would to. Feel free to set up the board. I'm ready to play.

This backgammon set is the perfect size for travel or for use while you're out on a boat on the lake. It holds everything exactly where it needs to be and is portable and durable enough to be taken on the go. I would recommend this set to anyone looking for a portable backgammon set to enjoy.
