Bachmann Trains - The Broadway Limited Ready To Run Electric Train Set - N Scale

I purchased this set at a significant discount from Amazon Resale listed as "used like new."Imagine my surprise that the previous owner spared me the hassle of having to get rid of more useless EZ track, because they only returned what was visible through the windows in the packaging.I had a good laugh when I immediately spotted that the wheel assemblies (aka trucks, bogies) were missing from two of the passenger cars. I guess you dont need wheels if you don't have track?The locomotive itself gave me hours of enjoyment, as it was completely inoperative as delivered. Fixing it involved full disassembly:-Adding electrical isolation film to the split-frame chassis, as there were electrical shorts present.-Re-gauging the drivers (wheels) as they were pushed together, perhaps in an attempt to convert to narrow gauge?-Quartering the drivers, as they had been twisted out of quarter.-Aligning the gears on the axles of the drivers to the correct position to make contact with the internal gears connected to the motor-Straightening one bent axle-Centering the axle shafts so they were not poking out either side of the drivers.-Soldering weakened wire connections to pcb board holding headlightAbsolutely priceless experience of troubleshooting and repairing a broken model steam locomotive. Bachmann makes a very solid and servicable model in its n scale 4-6-0.Note: NEW from factory units rarely have defects and are reliable and smooth runners, unless mistreated.

the locomotive could've had more power

Great set worked right out of the box. First n scale train set. Track goes together easily. Loco and cars require a little patience and the re-railer to get all the tiny wheelies on the track. kept the knuckle couplers and only one was a little reluctant to work my fat fingers could not get between cars however toothpicks were able to get it hooked up. Great detail and the small size ( n scale) allowed me a train layout in a small apt

Cute set. But it is very flimsy. A small scale requires small motors. This translates into small power. Because of this, the cars are plastic and easily derail as they have no weight to them. I'm also disappointed that there is no power switch on the controller. To remove power, you must unplug it.UPDATE: There aren't words to adequately convey my disappointment with this set. Bachman is a reputable company, which is why I am shocked by the poor design quality. These cars DO NOT stay on the track; it constantly derails. The track is secured on a 1/4 inch of plywood, so I am certain it is nothing to do with setup.THESE TRAIN CARS NEED MORE WEIGHT. They are so lite, they easily come off the rail. And, their weight is inadequate for the terminal track to get cars back on the rail.BACHMAN gets a lot of money for this flimsy little set. What a disappointment.

after reglueing, works great

I bought this item from Amazon Warehouse at a significant discount. As with all things discounted, there may be a reason. My train came well packaged but without the clear sheet that makes the Windows in the front to see the boxed items. My order apparently received quite a bit of shock and shaking and two cars were loose in the package and the other car and locomotive were twisted in their pockets in the Styrofoam box. The locomotive had some parts jarred off and had to be repaired, including the left-side main rod which had to be removed and reinserted in the cylinder. Tiny screws, tiny parts. Took about 30 minutes with tiny tools that I luckily had.All that said, it runs beautifully now, the light works once reattached. It's a beautiful model and can easily be controlled at scale speed with the supplied, cheap, train set controller. I recommend this set with no reservations. Amazon Warehouse, not so much.

The media could not be loaded. Never had an N gauge train before, always had O or HO gauge, but needed something small enough to fit on a round antique table. This set worked perfect for that and it looks and works great!I ended up purchasing some additional 11 degree curved track to make a perfect circle since the set comes with an oval track layout.Only wish there was a way for the light to stay on when the train is parked and that the passenger cars had interior lighting.

The power pack/controller was an out of box failure, but the train works great with my MRC controller. Amazon customer service issued a partial refund so I am happy. The knuckle couplers are ok, but should have something better. It feels like a pricey set, but they all are these day. EZ track is fine, I have Katos, Atlas and Bachmann and they all operate ok on it
