the Lynn painter feels are back babyyy ✌️
I’m a sucker for strangers to friends to lovers and this DELIVERED. i was so happy that it was dual pov!!! their friendship was so built up, they really knew everything about eachother and when charlie called them ‘friends’ I GRINNED. the roadtrip was for sure my favourite part!!! i loved that they worked together too! charlie had such sarcastic dry humor and he was so funny 😭🫶🏼 i liked that she was like relatable in the things she liked, such as having a bookstagram, listening to Taylor swift, reading books, without it being over the top or overly quirky.seeing bailey navigate her feeling towards her mums new relationship and troubles with her dad was great too. i liked that charlie was a part of that too. AND HES A CAT DAD 😮💨the only thing that stopped it being 5 stars was the third act break up. other than that it was so much fun. loved her best friend too!

Lynn Painter is an auto-buy author for me!
Lynn Painter is easily an auto-buy author for me.Bailey first meets Charlie at an airport after her parents divorce. Charlie is a bit of a cynic who believes that girls and guys can't just be friends, and Bailey just wishes that Charlie would shut up on a 10 hour flight from Alaska. A few years later, Bailey and Charlie end up being co-workers at a hotel waterpark where they transition from co-workers to 'friends' to... maybe something moreI don't often read YA romances but I'll happily do it if Lynn Painter writes them. She has a way of creating such interesting characters, taking a simple plot, adding a bunch of hilarious shenanigans and making it a 5 star read. And yet, this book manages to break your heart at the same time. Bailey's feelings regarding her parent's divorce were heart-wrenching. Her dad hasn't messaged her in four months and her mum's new boyfriend is invading her home. I honestly just wanted to hug her.Charlie, despite coming across as a bit of an annoying, know-it-all had so much depth and growth in this book. His relationship with Bailey was incredibly sweet and I enjoyed them as friends that slowly transitioned into something more.A sweet, YA romance.

Cute book for teens who love romance
This book is so cute, I couldn't stop reading it! Lynn Painter is a great author and her stories have just the right amount of pacing. I won't spoil anything in the book but it's a super good read for people who love romance! Definitely recommend!

Disappointed my (admittedly very high) expectations
After reading and absolutely loving Lynn Painter's other YA novels (Better Than The Movies and The Do-Over), I had the highest expectations for Betting on You: unfortunately, I ended up disappointed.First of all: maybe it's cause I read all of Painter's YA books in the span of 6 months, but most of her characters are starting to blend together for me. Bailey sounded like a mix of Emilie and Liz, just with different quirks/hobbies (books instead of romcoms), while Charlie was basically Wes, no differences except he was a bit more annoying. The focus on the main characters' issues with their divorced/estranged parents contributed to the deja-vu feeling I had for most of the book.I really didn't like the characters: not Bailey, our FMC, who was whiny and frankly immature for 90% of the books, not Charlie, the MMC, who didn't treat Bailey like he should've and HAS NOT redeemed himself in my eyes. But he was AN ANGEL compared to the sorry excuse of a best friend that was Nekesa. Finally, I felt like most of the issues and problems the characters faced were not realistic and exaggerated just for the sake of furthering the plot, somehow.I'm still going to read the next YA novel from Lynn Painter cause I feel like 2 out of 3 five stars are a good record (and I hope she'll calm down with the Taylor Swift and pop culture references), but I will not recommend this one in particular.

My favourite so far!
This is my favourite of Lynn’s works! Absolutely adore Charlie and Bailey and PRAYING for a sequel… I read it in a few hours and was utterly absorbed. LOVED it, it’s very comparable to her others in the same genre; definitely YA romcom but it hit every heartstring, every cliché, every one of my hopes! The worst part for me is that the book ended and I’ll never get to read it for the first time again - that pleasure will have to sit with you!
