TROPICA - Green Hokkaido Squash (Cucurbita maxima) - 8 SeedsWorth knowing: The Hokkaido squash from Japan is the healthiest of all squashes. It produces green coloured fruits, wheighing about 1,5 kg, with orange-yellow pulp and is of excellent taste. The squash is rich in carotene, vitamine and trace elements. The fruits are around 20-30 cm in diameter. Propagation: The seeds are long-lasting and can be pre-grown on a window sill from March/April on. Use 1-2 seeds only per pot. Cover the seeds with 1 cm soil and keep them evenly moist. At 15°-20°C, the seeds will germinate already after 3-12 days. Young plants can be transplanted into bigger containers after 3-4 weeks. Outdoor sowing should be carried out no sooner than mid-May – end of June. Plants that have been pregrown indoors bear more fruits and will also start producing them earlier. Place / Light: Care: Squashes require bright to full-sunny locations. Fertile, humus ground and sufficient water will let the plant grow quickly. Fertilization will also promote growth.Winter period: Harvesting time is from October until November. After that, the squashes have to harden first. Do not harvest too early, for unripe fruits might start rotting. Ripe squashes are hard and have yellow stems. Bonsai Suitability:
