Ceiling fan for small TV room
The ceiling tiles in my TV room started falling last year so I had to have them all taken out and the whole thing drywalled -- in the process, my old ceiling light fixture broke so I decided to put a small ceiling fan with a light in its place. It took a while to get it done, only because the Minka ceiling fan I have in the living room also decided to do kaput (after 7 years) so I had to order that one before having the electrician come out to install both. But now that it's done, I can actually sit in the TV room in the afternoon and watch TV -- even with the floor fan on, it was too stuffy to sit in there but with the new ceiling fan, it moves the air and I'm comfortable -- the LED light is quite bright though and I usually don't have to turn it on since a table lamp is sufficient illumination in this small room.

Disappointing Motor Hum
In spite of the reviews, this fan is not quiet. Consistent motor hum at all speeds. I bought three based on the reviews and now have three humming fans - we have a 27 yr old fan that we installed in our house when we built it that is virtually silent.

Well…
The media could not be loaded.  This is my second Minka product. I have one in my living room I love it. I love the convenience of the remote control and I love the convenience of the remote control in this particular item and in my bedroom because when I crawl into bed I’m so exhausted and the next thing you know I look up and my fan is not spinning and I have to get back up turn it on and crawl back into bed…I don’t think you can go wrong with this because it is returnable OK. Do some research this is a very good product and I like itEdit: it was an issue with the securement device on this and it flew off the ceiling and it is now $350 worth of rubble on my floor neither Myself or the electrician were harmed however it is missing a securement device that my old fan had. We went with a floor model air conditioner instead of the fan and just left a simple light because I have never in my entire life seen a fan fly off the ceiling before that was traumatic

Nice fan...bad experience
Let me preface my experience by saying I've put up many ceiling fans, and this was the easiest install, despite somewhat cryptic instructions and drawings. Well engineered fan for the most part. So, after initial installation, I load up the remote, and immediately realized the provided 21A/12v battery was dead. Luckily, my local pharmacy had some in stock so off I went. I load up new battery, turn on the power, and voila...light works! Fan....not so much. I could hear the motor hum trying to move the blades, but nothing on any and all speeds, even reverse. I noticed if I try to spin the blades manually there is internal resistance and a scraping sound. As install was a Sunday, I filled out the {CONTACT US} form on the Minka website, which assured prompt reply within 24 hours. The following morning, I called their 1-800 number in the meantime, was informed they are "short-staffed in tech support...but someone will call in 30 minutes..."NINE HOURS LATER...still awaiting call-back, so I dialed again, finally talked to tech support and described my situation. I was told there is no troubleshooting given these symptoms, that blades should spin freely "like butter..." and advised to return to Amazon for replacement.Replacement install the following Sunday, and as I was taking the original back down, I removed the glass light dome and my hand brushed the blades, which now spun freely. Like butter! We've all heard nightmares about these screw-in- domes eventually coming unscrewed and crashing to the floor from the constant vibration, so I made sure mine was snug during the install. So, the culprit was that the dome, and if ratcheted all the way in, it presses up against the internal blade housing. A slight turn counter-clockwise maybe 1" or so, and the blade spins freely. So now the replacement unit gets carted off to UPS store for return unopened. Thus, the fan itself is 5 star, the ratings reductions are for the unnecessary hassle: - poor QC on the 3rd rate battery provided with original unit - no response to online help form - no call-back from tech support to message left with human being - tech staff unaware of this engineering bugaboo - unnecessary order/return of replacement unitThus, the fan itself is 5 stars....the low rating is for the hassles associated with what should have been a minor issue
