Perfect condition
Perfect condition and I am looking forward to reading this book about a fascinating woman and brilliant writer and the milieu in Japan within which she grew and lived. My only minor complaint would be the lack of illustrations which I think does bring a character to life. A single image is worth many words.

Thorough and essential
This is a thorough and extensively well researched biography that offers up new perspectives on Mishima, the book re-examines the key events in his life that some readers maybe already familiar with but places them into a broader context of Japanese history, in many of the illustrative points it makes we are also treated to follow up insights into Japanese social history. It also examines Mishima's much debated ancestry in great detail, forming an intricate family portrait.Sato Hiroaki has previouly translated many of Mishima's plays into English, (and also the novel Silk and Insight), and to be expected this book gives a more focused and in depth look at his life as a playwright, and of his visits to New York. Persona is full of small insights that give a fuller picture of the man and writer, his travels to Greece and India and in a brief chapter his taste in manga. In short, an essential new biography.
