Interesting movie, I really liked its original approach to werewolves. Although I didn’t care for the found footage approach to filming it, I did like how the film goes with a grounded-as-possible approach to the medical aspects of being a werewolf, trying its best to show scientifically how one could be a werewolf, and also the film’s framing storyline of criminal investigation.The film basically centers on a criminal defense case, a court case of a man accused of attacking some tourists camping in a remote area of France, an attack that results in the death of the son and husband and almost killing the wife/mother. When police learn the attacker looked like a man and was not in fact an animal as everyone thought at first, they arrest a hulking, hairy local man named Talan Gwynek (played by Brian Scott O'Connor).Enter the defense attorney assigned to Talan, an American expatriate named Kate Moore (played by A.J. Cook). Really passionate and good at her job, she does her absolute best for her client Talan, trying to get him treated like a human being (the police keep him locked and chained like he is Hannibal Lecter), trying to determine if the initial suspicions that it was in fact an animal that attacked the campers is true, and if Talan might have a medical condition that means he simply wasn’t able to have committed the murders. Along the way Kate also finds there might be ulterior motives as to why the police were so quick to suspect and arrest Talan, motives having to deal with a great deal of money. Kate and her team of two other people simultaneously pursue several avenues of inquiry to exonerate Talan.Only those avenues, while some are promising and could help Talan (the financial aspect), they fail as Talan isn’t normal. Those inquiries end up proving that Talan is a werewolf. When that finally is out on in the open, the movie is no longer a detective legal/medical thriller but is instead an action/adventure/horror film.I liked the subtle transformation aspects of being a werewolf in this film (no costumes or CGI for the most part here, mostly practical effects with make-up and body postures and acting), I liked the rage monster/”don’t make Hulk angry!” aspects of being a werewolf in the movie (whiles still having nods to things such as a full moon; also points for pointing out the moon can sometimes be seen during the day!). I initially didn’t like the plot thread of someone showing up again in Kate’s life to help with the case, an ex named Gavin Flemyng (played by Simon Quarterman), one who has friction with the other person on the defense team Eric Sarin (played by Vik Sahay), but the plot thread really paid off and I withdraw any objections I have to it.The movie can be quite gory at times, so warning there. Sometimes the found footage approach to camera work could be a little annoying though in one scene in particular it was actually quite effective. The ending was pretty exciting. It was good to see Sebastian Roché as Klaus Pistor, the police detective, I say this as a Supernatural fan. Some good action and suspense. One of the better werewolf movies out there, I give it a lot of credit for an original approach.

Written by the same two writers behind the less than favorable films Stay Alive and The Devil Inside, I was impressed with their improved writing in this effort. The story begins much like a legal drama, with Kate, her investigator Eric, and her medical professional Gavin trying their best to attain information and understand what exactly happened the night of the murders. Law enforcement officials believe they have an open and shut case with the hideous Talan as their suspect, and funny as it be…they are right. After about 50 minutes of good development we finally see our first true solid horror, and from then on out the werewolf action takes over. Before this the most horror we received was a look at the mutilated victims at the morgue. Only 8 minutes later we receive the moment every werewolf fan anticipates: the transformation. Talan’s does not consist of a full transformation to a wolf though, as he keeps a lot of his human figure. While I do not prefer this I won’t balk at it. I see it as a matter of one’s own opinion and nothing more. The horror written into the film takes full control and provides more deaths than I could keep count of. If I had to guess I would say there are several dozen, so you know the story won’t be lacking in excitement.Co-writer William Brent Bell directs the film, and I am glad to say that he has improved on the direction seen in Stay Alive and The Devil Inside. From the get-go I was hooked on the story and I credit his execution for that. The first half of the film is all development and Bell makes it as interesting as possible by executing it as more of a legal drama than a horror film. This changes when the horror kicks in, giving us the best of both the worlds the story offers. He achieves fair performances from his actors as well, but none of them stole the show. I definitely wanted better execution of Brian Scott O’Connor, who portrayed Talan / the werewolf, but he was just OK and not as menacing as he could have been. Aside from that the horror is pretty good thanks to lots of kills and plenty of blood. If you are looking for more than that, like real tension, you won’t find it here. The horror is brainless and you get to love it or hate it. I loved the number of kills and the brutality of them, but I hated seeing so much CGI gore. The werewolf transformation was also CGI. CGI has its place in modern horror, but it should be as far away from werewolf films as possible.Overall, Wer gets a lot of things right and only suffers a few faults that make it less than stellar but still a worthy watch.

I'm very much a werewolf fan and aficionado, and this is now one of my all time favorite additions to the genre and lore. Very, very different take on the lore and story. The scientific, crime solving approach was a fresh approach. The filming was a concern for me because I typically hate the "real" found footage filming style, but it worked very well with this movie and wasn't overdone. While I do love werewolf movies, I am not a fan of gore and there was some pretty intense stuff in this movie. I actually did something I have very rarely done, hit fast forward for one part that was thankfully very well telegraphed so it was easy to know it was time. I've read some reviews say this was "done before" and while that is possible, I've never seen anything like it in a werewolf or monster genre. Maybe the other movies did it so poorly that I couldn't make the connection. Either way, the plot development was unique in my experience.I'm used to seeing a much greater amount of transformation from human to beast than this movie's special effects had, but that helped with the plot and story. While a lot of the "monster" special effects were tame by comparison to werewolf classics like The Howling or modern masterpieces like Underworld, they were quite "real" feeling. It moved along as much by character interaction as it did by action. The scene on the cover was actually really creepy, even though it didn't go exactly as pictured. The end of the movie was also very well done. It could even have a sequel. Some people weren't impressed, but it left me with a big smile on my face saying "wow" and very happy I took a chance on watching it.

Decent horror feature with some practical affects, and some gore. Plot is structured to keep viewers interested, and is worth the watch.

One of the best Werewolf films that I have seen in a long time! A completely original film that approaches the well known Werewolf subject from a whole new angle, with some new and surpising ideas.WER has excellent special effects, is very very tense and bloodthirsty. Definitely one to watch for horror fans!The only down side to this film, is the well known use of the "shaky camera" early on. However, as the film progresses, the camera work improves.The story starts with an horrific murder of a family camping in France and a local loner,living nearby,a huge man called Talen is arrested as a suspect.His Attorney thinks he has a rare illness,which would mean he is incapable of the murders and gains his release pending results of hospital tests.This is when the film really gets going and we see who Talen really is.This is a must watch movie,so glad I bought it,highly recommended.

Nein.Er ist deswegen nicht minder gefährlich. Halb Mensch, halb Bestie.Erste Szene: Ein Familienausflug- Vater und Sohn werden getötet.Mutter überlebt schwer verletzt.Zweite Szene: Ein über und über behaarter Mann, sehnige Arme, wild- wirrer Schopf; mit gesenktem Blick und stumm sitzt er seiner Verteidigerin gegenüber. Dieses Wesen macht mir Angst. Ist es wirklich der gesuchte Killer?Obduktionsbericht:" Der Hinterkopf ist komplett abgerissen worden- hier sind deutlichBißspuren- die zum Angriff eines grossen Tieres passen würden-..... der Oberschenkelhals ist komplett freigelegt- der Unterkiefer ist.... vollständig abgerissen, außerdem wurde ein Teil der Zunge abgebissen.- Hier.....weiter unten, im Oberschenkel, sind ebenfalls heftige Bißspuren zuerkennen...und auch hier gibt es keinerlei Hinweise auf den Gebrauch.....einer Waffe- das sind die selben Bißspuren. Das muss von einem Tier,.....ziemlichn groß, stammen.."-.....und HUCH...just in dem Moment löst sich dieLeichenstarre und.....seht doch am besten selber." Sehen wir uns nun den Jungen an." Und ich sah ihn auch.Oder besser, was davon übrig war.........zurück in den Verhörraum. Der zottige Mann sagt:" Ich erinnere michan nichts- wenn ich krank bin." Der vermeintliche Täter:Ein riesiger, stark behaarter Mann, der scheinbar geistig zurückgebliebenist. Obwohl ihn ein dunkles Geheimnis umgibt, will seine Anwältin nichtan die Schuld ihres Mandanten glauben.Bei medizinischen Tests gerät er jedoch völlig außer Kontrolle und.....hinterlässt ein blutiges Schlachtfeld.Erfüllt sich jetzt durch ihn die uralte Familien- Legende......von der Rückkehr des Werwolfes?_________________________________________________________________Fazit:WER- DAS BÖSE IN DIR ist ein herausragender Horror- Thriller.Mit zunehmender Steigerung nicht nur definitiv spannend undnervenreibend. Denn dieser WERwolf ist so ganz anders.Dieser WERwolf schlägt sprichwörtlich aus der Art- denn wenner agiert, reisst und zerfleischt er nicht nur.....er schlägt auch zu,- so wuchtig und brutal, daß die Knochenbersten und das Blut in alle Richtungen spritzt.Angesichts dieser Tatsache, die für WERwölfe nicht gerade ander Tagesordnung ist, wurde mir bewusst, was für Kräfte hierüberhaupt wüten.....erbarmungslos und so noch nie gesehen.Auch die Verwandlung zur alles zerstörenden Kampfmaschine istgenau so top wie die Mutation seiner vierbeinigen Kollegen.Und beim finalen Showdown wird nochmal ordentlich zugelegt.Faszinierend. Nein. Absolut geil.
